In 2025, we had our exterior trim painted and the painting company left holes in our roof from their ladder feet. Because roofers were busy and booked up, I scaled my very steep roof and put a tarp over where we were experiencing a leak on May 23rd, 2026. The tarp solved the issue and we didn’t experience a leak while it was in place. McClellands came out for a quote on June 11th and removed the tarp to inspect the roof, then kind of put it back, but it blew off within a week of them coming (after being solidly attached for 19 days). When we experienced more heavy rain later in June, we called McClellends needing help ASAP (June 24th) as I didn't want to climb on my roof again but the leak was inevitable given the tarp was no longer in the proper place. To their credit, they came out within 24 hours (June 25th) to make the repair. The tarp was obviously completely removed at that time. On June 27th, I came home to a nightmare - the entire living room had flooded like it never had before. What was once a small leak coming through the ceiling had turned into a huge one, dripping from multiple spots above and coming down the wall, bubbling the paint. After the repair, the leak was at least 10x worse than before. It was also currently raining, therefore actively leaking, and more rain was expected. In a panic, my partner and I called the 2 numbers we had for McClellands and left messages around 4:00 PM. When they responded, they said they were working on getting someone over but they didn't have anyone working who could help. They scheduled someone for 7:30 AM the next morning, but denied that they were responsible for the damage caused by the now MUCH BIGGER leak. They said it was a trial and error process - Unfortunately for us, their error cost us our living room area rug, much of our hardwood flooring in the corner of the living room, the paint, and more of our ceiling. We ultimately didn’t want them coming back after how rude they were about denying any responsi

Leah, we are truly sorry to see your review change, and we completely understand how devastating and stressful it is to come home to water damage in your living room. To provide context on what happened from our professional perspective: The Nature of Roof Leaks: As you noted, the roof structural damage was originally caused by a third-party painting company. When a roof is compromised like this, heavy storms can cause water to find secondary paths or hidden entry points that weren't fully sealed during a localized repair. Our Emergency Response: This unpredictability is exactly why we treat active leaks with urgency. When you called on Saturday afternoon, we immediately prioritized your home and scheduled an emergency crew to be on your roof at 7:30 AM Sunday morning to isolate and resolve the remaining issue. The Refusal of Service: The breakdown in our communication happened because we cannot accept financial liability for interior remodeling (hardwood floors, rugs, and drywall) resulting from a roof that was originally compromised by another company. When we explained this standard industry policy, your partner unfortunately became highly upset, refused our Sunday morning emergency service, and explicitly told us not to send our team. We stand behind our roofing work and were fully prepared to show up first thing Sunday morning to ensure your roof was completely watertight. We did not walk away from you; our team was actively blocked from coming to fix the issue. We truly wish you the best in getting your living room restored.

Do not use - I had water spots on my ceiling of my townhouse built in 2020. I paid McCllelands $1100 to come identify the problem and fix the leak in May 2025. Then had the ceiling refinished. In December 2025 the water spots appeared again in the exact same place. I called McClellands to come take a look again and was told under no circumstances do they warranty any repairs. Paid them $1700 to fix it again in January 2026. It kept leaking and just had to have it repaired by someone else last week. April 2026 Would never use again. Here’s a quote from the letter written by the owner on the first page of their repair estimate: “If Our Name Goes On It, We Stand Behind It, So You Can Stand In It. Best Regards, Brock McClelland “ Turns out you don’t stand behind it, Brock.
Reply from the business
Dear Dane, You are absolutely right to hold us to that quote. My name is on the company because I intend to stand behind every job we do, and it is clear that in this instance, we fell short of that promise. I want to be transparent with you: as the owner, I am not always on the front lines of every service call. In this case, the details of your recurring leak and the communication you received regarding our warranty were not brought to my attention. Now that I am fully aware of what took place, I am committed to making this right. We have reached out to you twice over the last few days to discuss a resolution and a full refund. Please check your voicemail or email so I can ensure "standing behind it" isn't just a slogan, but a reality for you. Best Regards, Brock McClelland

Heard good things about this company who seems to have a solid reputation which is why I reached out. Met with representative mid March to examine our row house on the North Side in the War Streets, but after month later and emailing three times, never got a quote. While we are no hurry and were aiming to schedule for the fall roof replacement, now feel completely discarded. Maybe it’s because we are not a priority as a smaller house and they prefer commercial property or larger houses in the suburbs. Regardless, we will never know and now going somewhere else.
Reply from the business
Thank you for the feedback. We sincerely apologize for the lack of communication following our visit in March—missing three emails is unacceptable, and we take full responsibility for dropping the ball. We want to assure you that the size or location of your home had nothing to do with the delay; we value our North Side row house projects deeply. While we’re sorry we couldn't find a solution when we spoke recently, we respect your decision to move on and wish you the very best with your roof replacement this fall.

McClelland’s charges for a dryer vent replacement is $1,285.72! Accepted contractor’s charges $179! $1,106 saving in my pocket! Not a bad review on their services. Bad review based on their outrageous pricing!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. At McClellands Contracting and Roofing, our pricing reflects the standards we operate under as a fully licensed and insured contracting company that stands behind the work we perform. Our estimates account for proper installation practices, qualified technicians, insurance coverage, and warranty-backed workmanship so homeowners have accountability long after the work is completed. We understand that homeowners may receive lower-priced estimates for what appears to be the same type of work. In many cases, however, the scope of work, materials, insurance coverage, and long-term responsibility for the outcome can vary significantly from contractor to contractor. Our approach has always been to perform the work correctly, safely, and professionally while standing behind it if our name goes on it. We appreciate the opportunity to provide an estimate and wish you the best with your project.

I had a roof replacement due to major storm damage. I was honestly surprised to receive a survey after the work that was done on my home. I will start off by saying if you would like to work with a company that does not finish the job, terrible communicators, has an unprofessional crew on top of over promising and under delivering, this is your place. To give detail of my experience, at the beginning of the project the timeline quoted was 4-6 weeks. After paying a $10k deposit and hearing no word after 6 weeks, I was dragged out for another week with promises unable to be delivered on to ultimately be told that original timeline will now double. After asking for my deposit back to take my business elsewhere, somehow McClellands made magic happen and had materials for my roof the next week. Metal roofing may not be their area of expertise and I am an understanding person, but when expectations are set, I expect a company to follow through. During install, took three weeks for the project to be completed of a metal roof replacement. During which, had one of the workers defecate in my yard. Was supposed to receive follow up to have the project manager come out to finish the job of inspection, follow up on painting the siding and remove the haul away dumpster. After two weeks of trying to get the project manager to come out and him promising multiple dates he never showed for, I was ghosted. There has been no follow up, the painting job was not completed to finish the whole project and no follow up ever occurred. My favorite part was receiving a check for an overcharge of the project. I now have to figure out if or what else they have overcharged me for throughout this nightmare. I wouldn’t recommend this company to my worst enemy. Take your business anywhere else you possibly can.

We are truly embarrassed to read this review, and we want to offer a sincere public apology to accompany the conversation you had with our COO, Jacki. You mentioned that the repeated review requests were a major frustration, and you are absolutely right. We have internal checks designed to ensure a customer is fully satisfied and the work is verified as complete before any survey is ever sent. We clearly missed those checks in your case; this highlighted a flawed automation system, and changes were made to ensure this doesn't happen again. Regarding the project itself: We failed you on the timeline, the communication, and the crew's professionalism. The behavior regarding the crew member in your yard is absolutely inexcusable and violates every standard we hold; please know that immediate disciplinary action was taken regarding that individual. We respect your decision to discontinue any further work with us. We are deeply sorry for the stress this experience caused. Sincerely, The Management Team at McClellands

Edit - my original review is below, but I'm going to pin some comments on their response to the top here because I'm frankly shocked at how willing they are to straight up lie to "set the record straight": 1. While they include a disclaimer in the confirmation email about recording the in-home consultation, they did not ever establish explicit consent in any other fashion. Likewise, I will avoid opining on that fact any further than saying it made me uncomfortable. 2. There simply was no follow up call or conversation the day after the appointment, certainly not to discuss budget and financing - the next call I received was Friday the 21st, and I did not pick up. 3. I was absolutely not "personally known to" the bank representative - I use the same regional bank for much of my personal banking but have never interacted with anyone in the loan department. 4. I'm not going to bother going through and rebutting anything with the gutters or website, as the fact that they are still lying to protect themselves should be enough for any rational person to reach a conclusion. Certainly doesn't feel very "Christian" of them though... I recently contacted McClellands about two different projects, a basement renovation and a gutter repair. The scheduling person was great, and was able to get an initial appointment scheduled for both in a reasonable time frame. The walkthrough for the basement project was fairly quick, but the estimate came back ~30% higher than the next highest that we received, so we were likely not going to go in that direction. Unfortunately, two other factors solidified my decision rather quickly and compelled me to leave a review. The appointment for our gutters was scheduled for the following week, but we failed to receive a confirmation prior as we had for the previous visit. Sure enough, the day came and went with zero communication. Yes, I could have reached out on my end to confirm, but at that point I'd seen enough. I say that, because the day

Ken, thanks for the detailed feedback. We have attempted to reach you directly multiple times over the last few days to resolve this personally, but since we haven't received a return call, we want to address your concerns here to ensure the record is accurate. Regarding the financing: We reviewed the audio recording of the in-home appointment and you are correct—financing was not discussed during the visit. However, our notes indicate this came up during a follow-up phone call the next day regarding the budget. Our representative contacted a specific relationship manager at the bank simply to let them know to expect a call from you, not to solicit you. It appears the bank representative took the initiative to call you directly instead because you were personally known to them based on prior relationship. We apologize that this felt like an intrusion; our intent was to facilitate a connection we believed was requested, not to share your data without consent. Regarding the gutters: This was a communication failure on our end. While our system shows the downspouts were intended to be checked during the initial walkthrough rather than a separate appointment, our team failed to capture the photos needed to send the quote. We apologize for the lack of follow-up there. Finally, regarding the website: We do use stock photography for design inspiration in some areas, though we are working to update our website portfolio with more of our recent local projects. In the meantime, our actual completed interior projects are showcased extensively on our social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. We wish you the best with your renovation.

Terrible company. Absolutely no communication, all they did was send bills through email. I must’ve received 20 of them. I didn’t even know what they were for. They initially came to fix a leak. I couldn’t get in touch with anyone to tell me about it. Then I had asked him about replacing my roof. Their quote was ridiculously high! I could never get a returned call but they sure sent me a lot of bills over email. I called to find out what the bill was for and I have it explained no one ever returned my call! probably place at least 10 calls to them and never got an answer. I would not recommend this company at all horrible.

Hello Pamela, We did try to reach you via phone in regards to your concerns, but were unsuccessful. We did leave a voicemail for you and if you are willing to discuss, please give our office a call at your earliest convenience. We are truly sorry to hear about your experience with us. What you’ve described does not reflect the level of service or communication we strive to provide. Clear updates, timely follow-ups, and transparent pricing are essential. We take feedback like this very seriously so we can internally review and can improve communication, scheduling, and consistency moving forward. With that said, we did look back on the previous communication and the process you encountered. It appears you reached out looking for a date for installation prior to us having a signed contract, so the intent to move forward with your project was unclear on our end, therefore the lack of communication on your end. We do see that a signed contract was completed on July 8th. At that time, our tentative timeline for installation was 4-6 weeks from contract signing. It appears you were unclear as to why the invoice was sent after we received the signed contract, however, your sales representative did ensure to include details surrounding the deposit required outlined in the contract. We do apologize for any confusion. Even though our repair timeline was 4-6 weeks, it looks like the operations manager made you a priority and scheduled your work for July 17th, less than 10 days from contract signature to compensate for the miscommunication with our timeline. I will agree that there appears to be a communication delay in getting the completion photos to you at your request, along with the additional quote you requested, but both were completed and sent to you. According to our timeline, it also appears as if there was a disconnect on payments and when they were made. A final invoice was sent on 7/20 and not paid until 8/7. You sent an email stating this repair was paid for on

I am adding a review to a previous post. I want to express my gratitude to Jesse Scheller and Mclellands Contracting and Roofing. Mclellands did a job for me last fall and I was very pleased with their work. Recently, I had an issue with my roof which was installed in 2022 by another contractor. This had been a terrible experience and I DID NOT WANT TO CALL THEM BACK. I called McClellands and they sent Jesse who diagnosed the problem. Jesse said if he did the work it would void any warranty. Jesse encouraged me to reach out to the manufacturer to see about a warranty. He even got me the phone number. I called the manufacturer and I am fully covered. What company puts integrity and decency before the dollar today? I am very grateful for McClellands and will be engaging them to do more work in the future (8/16/2026 review). I want to commend McClellands Contracting and Roofing, and employee Dan Apitsch. I called for an estimate after I noticed fascia had pulled away from under my box gutter in 3 of 4 corners of my house. Mr. Apitsch met me at my house and I showed him the problem areas. He asked when my box gutters were last painted and said he would inspect them while he was examining the fascia. Later in the day Mr. Apitsch contacted me to tell me that he went ahead and tacked down the fascia at no cost. He told me the gutter liner did not need painting. He said there are a few seams that need to be resealed and he would send me an estimate. I have been treated poorly by many contractors. Nobody has ever done anything free of charge. Most of the contractors I have worked with would have convinced me the box gutters needed to be painted and would have turned this into a big expensive job. I am grateful to Mr. Apitsch and McClellands for their kindness and honesty and look forward to completing my little job. I expect this to be the beginning of a great relationship as I have a number of projects ahead of me.

One of our condo units started experiancing a leak due to some shingles that were damaged during a storm. I called McClellands Contracting and Blake came out the next day. Because it was only a couple shingles, he was able to take care of the issue the same day! Not only did he do that, but he also took care of a small sidding issue (a piece of siding had become loose). Blake was very professional and curtious - we could not be happier with the work and service provided by McClellands! We will definitely keep McClellands Contracting and Roofing in mind for all of our future repair needs!

We truly appreciate the trust from you and look forward to being your go-to contractor whenever you need us in the future!

Every figure above is Google’s, captured on 24 September 2026. The star average and the 973 ratings behind it are counted by Google across all of its reviews. The review text on this page is a sample — we hold 413, of which 372 have any text — and it is not everything Google shows.
Roof Warden does not verify licenses, bonds, insurance or workers’ compensation cover, and nothing on this page should be read as though we had. Confirm those directly with the contractor and with your state or provincial licensing body before you hire anyone.
