The short version
Roof Warden is a static website. It sets no cookies, writes nothing to your device, carries no advertising and has no login and no account. It runs one measurement script of its own, described below, which counts how pages are used and cannot follow you anywhere else. We do not track you across the web, and we have no profile of you to sell. There is exactly one form on the site — claiming a listing, for the businesses we list — and what it collects is set out below.
What we publish
We publish information about roofing businesses drawn from their public Google listings: trading name, address, phone number, website, opening hours, star rating, the breakdown of ratings, and review text with the business’s replies.
Some of that is personal information. A sole trader’s business name is often their own name, and review text is written by identifiable people and sometimes names individuals. We publish it because it is already public and because a directory of contractors is only useful if it identifies them — but if you are named on this site and want that changed, we will change it.
Reviewers
Where we show a review we show the display name Google publishes with it. We do not collect reviewer email addresses, photographs or profile links. If you wrote a review that appears here and you want your name or the review removed from this site, email team@roofwarden.com and we will remove it. You do not have to explain why, and we will not ask you to contact Google first.
What we collect from visitors
Nothing that identifies you. The site is served as static files by our hosting provider, which keeps standard server request logs (IP address, time, page requested, user agent) for operational and security purposes. We do not join that to anything else, and do not use it for advertising.
Measurement
Separately from those logs, Roof Warden runs one small script of its own, served from this site, so we can tell which pages are worth keeping and improving. It is not Google Analytics or any other third-party product: the script is ours, it sends to this domain, and the records go to infrastructure we operate. No advertising network, data broker or analytics company receives anything.
A record contains the page you are on and the page you came from; the hostname of the site that linked to you, never the full address and never its query string; your country, region and city as your network reports them to our hosting provider; your device type, browser and operating system as broad categories; how long the page was actually visible; how far you scrolled; whether you clicked through to a roofer’s website, phone number or email address; and, if you use the search box, what you typed into it. That last one is set out in full under Search below, because it is the only field here that is made of your own words.
Your IP address is not stored. It is used once, on our server, to compute a short one-way code so that forty page views can be told apart from one person reading forty pages. That code mixes in a secret that changes every midnight, so the same person is a different code tomorrow and no history can be assembled about anyone across days. It is never sent back to your browser and nothing on this page can read it.
If you would rather not be measured, you already are not. The script checks for Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control before it does anything, and our server discards the request as well if either signal arrives. Content blockers stop it outright, and the site works identically either way.
Pages link out to third parties — a business’s own website, its social profiles, Google Maps. Following one of those links takes you to a site with its own privacy practices, which are not ours.
“Roofers near me”
Your location is never sent anywhere. If you press that button, your browser asks your permission and then hands your coordinates to the page you are already looking at. The page downloads a small table of city centres from this site — the same file for everybody, containing nothing about you — and works out which of our city pages are nearest, in your browser. Nothing is transmitted: this site is a set of static files with no server that could receive a location even if we wanted one. We do not store it, and the measurement script above never sees it.
Declining the permission prompt costs you nothing else on the site, and the button simply says so.
Search
The search box downloads one index file covering every business we list and then matches what you type against it inside your browser. The matching is still done entirely on your device — there is no search server, and the index never leaves your browser once it has been downloaded.
What you type in the search box is recorded, and this changed on 10 September 2026. Until that date it was not, and this page said so. We changed it because the searches that find nothing are the only direct evidence of which roofers and which towns are missing from the site, and we had no way to see them. A record contains the words you typed, how many results they matched, how many were shown, which of the search boxes you used, and what our matcher made of the words — whether it read them as a phone number or a postcode, whether it corrected a spelling, and whether it widened a postcode to find anything at all.
It is attached to the same measurement record as everything above, so it carries the same one-way code and nothing more. There is no name, no email address, no account and no IP address against it. We keep it because it tells us what to build next; we cannot use it to work out who typed it, and neither can anyone who obtained the data.
If you claim a listing
The claim form is the one place on this site that asks you for anything. If you use it, we collect what you type — your name, role, email address, optional phone number and note — plus the proof file you attach and the browser identifier the submission came from.
Your network address is not stored. It is used once, on our server, to compute a one-way code that lets us stop the same source submitting the form over and over. The code cannot be turned back into an address, and the address itself is never written down.
The rest is used to review the claim and, if it is approved, to contact you about your listing. It is held in a private database and a private file store, readable only by us, and the emails we send you go through our email provider. None of it is published: an approved claim shows only that the listing was claimed by the business, and the month. To withdraw a claim or have what you sent deleted, email team@roofwarden.com.
If you sign in to a listing account
An approved claim comes with an account at /manage. We store your email address, a one-way scrambled form of your password — never the password itself, and it cannot be turned back into one — and, while you are signed in, a random session code, the browser identifier, and a one-way code derived from your network address. As on the claim form, the address itself is never written down.
We keep what you write about your business, every version of it, and which address saved each one. That history is how we can tell you what your page said last month and undo a change you did not make; it is not published, and only the current version appears on your page. Sessions expire after thirty days and expired ones are deleted. Changing your password ends every session on the account and sends a note to your address saying so.
Photos you upload are meant to be published, and they are — on your own page, attributed to you. Before any of that happens we take the file apart and put it back together from the parts that make up the picture, which throws away everything a phone hides inside one: the GPS coordinates where it was taken, the device it was taken on, and the moment the shutter fired. We keep only which way up it goes. A photo of a finished job does not carry that customer’s address into public view. Removing a photo deletes the file itself, not only the link to it.
The text you save is published on your listing, attributed to you. Everything else here is used to sign you in and to keep the account yours. To close an account or have what you wrote removed, email team@roofwarden.com.
Correction, removal and complaints
Email team@roofwarden.com to have information about you or your business corrected or deleted. There is no charge and no form. We aim to respond within a few working days, and we will tell you what we did.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information we hold, and to complain to a data protection authority. Exercising them starts with the address above.
Changes
If this page changes materially, the date at the top changes with it. See also our terms.
