Red flag experience. I never signed a contract or agreed to any fees. After I declined this contractor due to a very high bid ($17,000 higher), he attempted to bill me for a fee he paid to a consultation company, despite originally stating it was his cost. He then filed a small claims lawsuit against me (has since been dropped).Completely unacceptable. Stay far away. There are many reputable roofing companies in the area that offer fair pricing and operate with integrity—this one does not. You deliberately misled and withheld information to maximize your profit. You explicitly stated that this was a fee you paid. There was never any discussion of contingency. You used an inflated estimate and knowingly exploited it to extract every possible penny. You were fully aware that this estimate was inflated and did not accurately represent the actual cost of roof replacement. You also knew that due to my specific policy, you were not working with the insurance company; this was essentially a cash job. You were also aware that I would be out of pocket above the insurance payment. You chose to take a calculated risk that I would not be prudent enough to obtain multiple estimates. All three additional estimates were $17,000 lower than yours. Had you adopted a different business model, we wouldn’t be facing this issue, and you would have earned my business. That was entirely your decision. It was also my decision not to work with a contractor who would knowingly and intentionally attempt to maximize his earnings, if possible, at the expense of the homeowner. I would have been at a significant disadvantage had I proceeded with you. You would have been the sole beneficiary of that working relationship. Additionally, I have documentation that clearly states that you explicitly stated this was your fee. Regarding your “business decision” to cut your losses, you and I both know that’s not what transpired. You are not out any money. You were not supposed to pass that fee on to custo

In my experience, there were no red flags in this case. The homeowner contacted me after being Referred to E4 Construction and Roofing. At that time she had a partial claim, meaning her insurance would only cover the back half of her roof replacement. This cost was slightly less than her very high deductible. When I met with her, I recommended that the option of letting me pursue the insurance company on the existing claim (even though it had been a year) and try to get the entire roof paid for. I explained that there was no risk because if we were not successful, there would be no fee. However, if we were successful, there would be a 10% fee. She was in a bind because if another storm occurred before making the already approved repairs, she would be stuck with another deductible on a new claim for the remaining part of the roof that was not included in the first claim. She said she would talk to her husband and let me know. A month or so later, she told me she wanted to proceed. *To be clear, at no time did I ever ask for any money upfront at all*. So we went to work and her insurance company was contacted, and my team met with their adjuster at her home for a new inspection. That adjustment was successful, and the entire roof was paid for, on the same, existing claim. The claim dollars increased over $30,000, in addition to what insurance had already allowed for the claim. Once this was settled, I provided an Agreement based exactly on what insurance allowed for the work, and no more. This is completely fair and is the common practice. Because we did not have an Agreement for the Roof Work in place beforehand (there was no work or cost to Agree to until the process was completed), the owner then decided instead to get other bids and use another contractor. I have no recourse for this and that is fine, but this left me with the 10% fee cost (actual time and dollars spent by me) of actually getting the claim dollars she needed to be able to even get the work done at
