Requested a roof repair from Amazon Roofing on a large 4 unit building in South Toledo. We were very clear from the first communication that this was a time sensitive repair request and that we were not looking for any type of replacement. The roof is not very old and a replacement would be inefficient. Amazon roofing representative, Jerry agreed that this would not be an issue. We coordinated with the existing tenant and paid our maintenance partner to meet Jerry at the property. I followed up with Jerry a day after the appointment when he failed to call me with an update. He proceeded to tell me that Amazon Roofing was only interested in completing an entire backside roof replacement and that they did not do "(1) bundle type repairs". When I asked Jerry to explain what a "(1) bundle type repair" was he proceeded to tell me that this was a repair type service. The exact type of service that I was very clear about our requesting from the our very first communication. Jerry and Amazon Roofing wasted our time and still has not sent over a quote for the back half roof replacement.

In talking with Jerry, he understands the errors he made. When you called in for an estimate, it was the day that I (Rob) was leaving town for 3 weeks. This left Jerry to do, both his job, and mine, with no help. I warned Jerry, that you are a customer that needs results immediately, based off past estimates I gave you, which gives me partial blame, as well. When Jerry showed up at the property, the superintendent he met there laughed, and told Jerry he was at least the 6th roofing company you had out there. All of this contributed to Jerry's approach. He should've been more honest with you, rather than evasive. For that we acknowledge our error, best wishes, moving forward.

After the storm damage I had I was working between these guys and insurance to get my roof replaced. They made no attempt to work with my insurance directly. Unfortunately insurance was also being difficult and so Amazon Roofing decided to just withdraw from the job. Quoting a job then leaving a customer high and dry and not communicating is definitely not professional. Guess it's time to find a new contractor. EDIT - Per the comments from the owner the following should be noted. The insurance company DOES NOT do roofing work, their job is to write the check. Contractors are often required to work with insurance and on the customers behalf to secure payment and insure that the work performed is covered by the claim. In this case an adjuster had identified additional work that needed to be performed - a further repair to the roof of the main structure - for damages that were not originally identified by Amazon Roofing when they first came out; hence the need for a second visit. Insurance had quoted for a significant repair to the roof of the main structure in addition to a full replacement of the roof on the garage which had already been identified. Unfortunately the shingle on the roof on the house had been discontinued and so it was necessary to obtain a sample for insurance to check against for inventory; hence the third visit. The lab that was used identified a different shingle color and so the insurance is currently requesting a color match against the other shingle type they identified. Seeing as how paperwork was in order to prove it was already not a match I had arranged for a service fee to be paid by insurance separate from the payment amount Amazon would have received from the job. It was at this point that they decided to walkaway from the job. I still find this quite odd as since there is no color match this will likely turn into a second full replacement that will need to be done, the other being the previously mentioned garage roof; essentially 2

The frustration in your words, comes across quite clear and we fully understand, but there is more than one perspective to see this from. Jerry with Amazon Roofing has been on your roof 3 times, on your behalf, all while your insurance company continued on with requests for us, that are their responsibilities, not ours. Many other trades (plumbing, HVAC, etc.) have service call fees attached to every time they stop out to a customer, while our industry does not. So within 3 stops, we still had no gainful revenue or a signed contract to justify our efforts. Being a service industry, we understand all that comes with it and your satisfaction is of course a top priority, but at some point, all companies need to evaluate a situation and recognize when it's time to let go. Jerry now understands that his wording with you left a lot to be desired, and he will use this as a teachable lesson moving forward. While we failed in certain aspects of communication, the overall result still remains, your insurance company attempted to pass their responsibilities on to you and Amazon Roofing. Had they simply sent an adjuster to your home initially to investigate your damage, there would not have been a need for them to ask us to keep returning. Your frustrations are valid, the company you're directing your frustrations towards is not. We're genuinely sorry that you are disappointed, but we do truly feel that we went above and beyond our end of the responsibilities. We honestly hope that your struggles with your claim comes to an end soon and your insurance company does the right thing with your claim, thank you.

Had loose shingles, a small job. Called beginning of September and explained what was going on. I was told unable to do because of being short staffed. Said not in a hurry then was told there was a death in somebodies family. Poor customer service. Didn't even bother to look at job before turning down and ad continued in the press every week. If short staffed why place an add every week? Will never call this company again.

I'm sorry you considered this worthy of a negative review. Through 2020-21 we have had continuous issues keeping up with our volume of calls in comparison to the amount of journeyman roofers we have on staff. Many companies and/or industries in the United States have felt similar shortages and we have had to prioritize on what potential customers we take on projects for. We assure you that this is not a business tactic we enjoy, but are doing the best we can right now and are hopeful that we will be better suited in the future to handle all calls from potential customers. In regards to our ad with the Metro Press, they have us on a yearly contract. So we cannot pick and choose what weeks we advertise, this is why we have had the smallest ad they allow for the past 2 years.

You will need to keep your eye on the crew and your personal property.
Reply from the business
I truly hate confrontation, but changing your review from a 5 star to this 1 star was in poor taste. To claim one of the crew members returned later to your home and stole from you and that you have proof of this, but won't share it with us completely handcuffs me. I offered full compliance and still do in helping determine who it was that allegedly did this, especially since I wouldn't want this man on my projects any further, but with zero evidence in hand I cannot interrogate 10 men knowing that 9 of them are innocent. As I said, I would still like to help get to the bottom of this, but I would need more cooperation.

VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Much time invested in selecting them to replace our roof and they call less than 90 minutes before our appointment to sign the contract to inform us that they are withdrawing their bid because our house is no longer a big enough job for them to do. EDITED TO ADD AFTER RESPONSE FROM OWNER: All you state is completely false. Was strictly told by Jerry that Amazon is no longer doing jobs under 30 sq. I never insisted any specific product from any manufacturer; only asked to find out what type of ridge venting you would use. I never stated anything about expecting to drastically need more wood or wanting to take advantage of free wood replacement. I have no idea where you got that from. I was never inflexible on anything and I'm positive you must have me confused with someone else. Also Jerry told me that he had to cancel two more bids because they didn't meet your new 30 sq. requirement. So why didn't you just contact me directly to discuss so we could of worked out any concerns rather than assume the worst of me. Again not very professional as either Jerry or you are lying.
Reply from the business
The size of your project was not a factor at all. Your insistence of a product that is not recommended for your home's design, as well as your insistence for the product from a manufacturer we don't work with, was issue 1. Issue 2 was your insistence that you inspect the roof's decking in regards to wood replacement to meet your approval. With Amazon offering you free wood replacement as needed, there was a concern that you would expect drastically more wood replaced than necessary, especially since it would be of no cost to you. These demands raised a red flag and when we addressed them to you on the phone, you showed no flexibility or understanding. It was then and only then, that we decided to withdraw our bid.

Highly recommend! The quote was honest, fair and without pressure. The roof and gutters on the house and garage are beautiful. The roofing crew was hard working and finished the tear off and new roof in 1 day. Great job cleaning up. Rob was a pleasure to work with. Best roofing contractor around!

The most professional and knowledgeable roofing company I’ve worked with. Shingles usually come with at least at least a 20 year warranty so it’s the workmanship warranty and professionalism I was searching for. Thanks Rob and crew for a great job and wishing you a successful 2025!

Thanks, Nancy! After 25 years of working for you and doing over 100 jobs in 10 years, I'm honored to finally do you your actual roof. Best wishes moving forward, and thank you for the work.

Although we did not have any work done by this company, I spoke with the owner who is very knowledgeable and gave me many tips on choosing a contractor. We were looking for a contractor to replace our deck, but Amazon does not install decks. The owner explained how to spot red flags indicating that the contractor may not do a good job or may be a scam which were very helpful. If I need a new roof in the future or learn of someone who does, I would recommend that they call Amazon Roofing for an estimate.

Thank you, Kathy. There's too many unsavory people working all of the trades. While I can't guarantee my advice will yield you the results you deserve, I'm fairly certain that it can't hurt. Thank you for the generous review.
