  Used Van Lier because we had a good experience with them in a previous home many years ago. Did not realize until after made the agreement that Steve had retired and Nick had taken over the business. Went ahead based on experience with Steve. Roof was replaced in March 2025. Payment was made right away with Nick promising he would return to put black paint on metal pieces around windows and touch up trim paint. Within a few weeks, some of the shingles under the upstairs windows were sagging and ready to fall off. Called Nick and asked him to fix them before company was coming for dinner. Someone came and drove several nails into the sagging shingles. It looks terrible! Online research suggests that’s the fix, perhaps with sealing which I’m not sure was done. When the leaves came off the trees last year I was outside one day and realized how much the sun glinted off the nailheads. Nick still hadn’t kept his promise to paint the metal flashing or touch up the trim so I asked him to come do that, seal the nail heads and cover the nail heads in black paint as well. I have renewed this request, which essentially is asking him to keep his promise and fix his crew’s mistakes, several times. He either ignores me or says he will come and then doesn’t. I don’t leave negative reviews, especially for small, local businesses trying to earn a living for themselves and their employees. At this point I am so disappointed and angry with this experience that I am making an exception.

  Have been relying on Nic Van Lier for 20+ years. Nice to have reliable roof repair with the high winds in Boulder. My husband and I feel fortunate!!! Highly recommend.

  Can't say enough good words about Van Lier. I employed them for a very tricky repair and believe me, repairs are a world apart from the standard remove and replace jobs. Levi stayed with this job for almost 2 days and solved a construction problem that had existed for decades, and previous repair attempts had failed. I had contacted 4 other companies prior to Van Lier, none of which wanted to mess with small repair jobs. My only negative experience with Van Lier was having to repeatedly dun Nick to come back for his money:-).

  We learned about Van Lier Roofing from friends who had vetted many roofers before signing on to Steve Van Lier's company. Our retreat in the mountains outside Boulder has a lot of different buildings, large and small, and a few had roofing problems that had plagued us for decades. Roofers had come and tried but failed to solve the problems. However, Steve Van Lier, who is akin to a "roof whisperer," solved every single one of our problems. His team re-did part of our newly re-roofed 55' diameter geodesic dome that was already leaking after being improperly done by a "discount" roofer who did not stand by his work. Steve has always been quick to respond when we need an opinion or an estimate, advising on actual needs and explaining what can wait, understanding that, as a non-profit, our budget is limited. We are grateful to Steve and Van Lier Roofing for their expertise and courteous service this past decade!
