We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and are truly sorry for the frustration this situation caused. Our goal on every project is to provide quality workmanship and clear communication, and we regret that the outcome did not meet your expectations. We replaced the roof in early September, which included removing the old shingles, replacing six sheets of plywood, and installing a powered roof vent to help address the home’s limited intake ventilation. At the time of the project, the deteriorating condition of the existing gutters and fascia were discussed. While replacement or repair was an option, the homeowner chose not to pursue that scope of work, so the existing gutters were left in place and reused as they were prior to our work. From that point until a few weeks after the snow came early and often, there were no issues reported to us regarding the performance of the roof or existing gutter system. In early December, we were notified of water appearing on the interior front wall. We responded promptly and observed a significant ice dam in that area, with gutters completely filled with ice. Our representative explained the situation, discussed why ice dams form, and recommended snow removal and ice-melt products to help relieve the buildup and allow proper drainage. Despite these efforts and multiple follow-up visits, the ice accumulation worsened, eventually becoming heavy enough to pull the gutter away from the home. At that point, the gap between the gutter and drip edge developed. It’s important to note that the gutters were not moved or reinstalled during our work and remained in their original condition until the ice buildup caused the damage. One of Sherriff-Goslin's owners later visited the property and after inspection, advised contacting the insurance company, as damage from ice backup and severe weather events is typically covered under homeowners’ insurance. While we understand the concern regarding the gutters, ice dams are

Roof work was good but the damage to the soffit and other metal pieces around the house is what gives 2 stars. They were out three times to fix it and it’s still not corrected. Still have 4 scratched up pieces from the ladders that were not fixed.

    Reply from the business

Let’s start with the positive: “roof work was good.” I’ll take it! Not every 2-star review has something positive in it. But I’m not going to lie, this one kinda stings. While replacing the roof, which is what we were hired to do, we damaged the front gutter when a ladder slipped (which we replaced *with* an upgraded high-flow inside corner), there were a few marks on the vinyl siding by the front door (which we cleaned off then power washed the whole section), and we damaged some soffit, which we repaired twice (the first attempt didn’t match near well enough, so we came back out once we got our hands on the new material). I never sent the customer a single invoice until I thought we were finished with the punch list, and I communicated my plans throughout the entire process via email and text. My team and I did everything we could to make the homeowner happy. I spent several hours with the homeowner in the front yard while my guys worked on the punch list items, and he was extremely helpful making sure we checked all the boxes. We even replaced several wind-damaged pieces of fascia for free because of the inconvenience we caused. Ultimately I’m disappointed that our “good roof work” was overshadowed by the punch-list correction experience. I’ll take this review and we’ll talk about it and figure out how we can be better next time.

4 years ago we had a company install a new roof at our rental property. Recently that same roof started to leak. When I reached out to them regarding the warranty on their work, they completely ghosted me. That’s when I made the decision to call Sherriff Goslin and I’m so happy I did! Matt was wonderful to work with. He returned my call immediately and was such a pleasure to work with. The problem was quickly diagnosed and repaired on the spot. No more leaks. I would highly recommend Sherriff Goslin for their professionalism and expertise. I can see why they have been in business for so many years.

I’m 67 years old and do not generally go out of my way to navigate the internet and leave reviews. However, the wonderful folks at Sherriff Goslin greatly deserve a stellar rating, so here goes. Issue: 2021 hail damage/total roof replacement/received competitive and reasonable pricing/coordinated and worked with my insurance carrier. Results: Justin Reynolds sent out a team of his professionals to remove/replace the shingles, ice guard, flashing, etc…. Quick, seamless service, great attention to detail and clean up. Great job! Very happy with their work, I contacted Justin again, and again, and again over the next three years to replace and install a new skylight, install bathroom fan roof vents, replace soffits and flashing from 2024 windstorm damage, install gutter screens, etc… I have come to regard Justin, and especially his ace field repair guys, Jeff and Ken, as friends. These people are impeccably professional, do the work they say they’re going to do, and they always do it when they say they will. They always exhibit an easygoing manner, and always with a genuine sense of care. Jeff in particular has become my, “go to” guy for all things roof related. So much so in fact, Sherriff Goslin has now completed projects on both my son’s home and my daughter’s home. Stellar. The folks at Sherriff Goslin are simply stellar. You have something that needs to be nailed, screwed, glued, attached, replaced or otherwise finessed into place on the top or sides of your home? Call Sherriff Goslin.

I bought a historic home in the Stuart neighborhood with a distinct roof line - the Chappell-Stewart House – and I knew from the home inspection, my first task as the new steward of this house was to replace the damaged roof. I needed a roofing company that would honor the home's architecture and landscaping, comply with the historic district requirements, and replace it at a reasonable price. I also knew the steep pitch and jutting angles meant the crew would have to be very careful to avoid getting hurt. The salesperson, Matt, seemed to understand the importance of maintaining the exterior’s appearance, while also assuring his crew’s safety. We talked before the job started about assuring both goals, and I appreciated that he shared the plan with me. Sherriff Goslin wasn’t the cheapest quote, but they seemed to have the best knowledge and understanding about re-roofing a historic home. I’m so glad that I chose them for the project! They brought in a JLG to access the steep pitches – and the crew seemed very aware of the hazards and how to work safely – so there weren’t any accidents. They were also mindful of my fencing and landscaped yard. They even replaced some rotten boards on the wood fencing after they re-positioned the fence to get the JLG in and out. The salesperson, Matt, didn’t disappear after I signed the contract, either. He was on-site every day, texting updates and asking if I had any concerns throughout the project. I did not – in fact – I was quite impressed! Besides being safety-minded and diligent in working on the project, the crew were also respectful to myself and my 20-year-old daughter. Since she comes and goes to college alone each day, I really appreciate that the crew treated her with respect. The crew always greeted us with a smile and a wave, politely calling us “Ma’am,” and even pointed out Amazon deliveries amid the construction materials so we didn’t miss them. They were thoughtful about protecting the special features on my home (li

Thanks for the kind words, Dok! We were thrilled to work on one of the most iconic historic homes in Kalamazoo. As a 118 year old company, it's not every day we get to work on a home that's older than we are! We are exceptionally fortunate to have such conscientious roofers who also happen to be very good at what they do! Our crew foreman, Gus, has over 25 years of experience at Sherriff-Goslin, and he's the guy we rely on to handle difficult projects like yours. He's someone all of us here look up to every day, both literally and figuratively :) The carpenter that we tasked to replace the spindles is our in-house service tech, Jeff, who has been with us for over a decade, and he does spectacular work - thanks for the shout-out! All of us here, including Matt (salesman and project manager), appreciate your kind words and look forward to sending future customers past your home to check out our work. Thanks a million!

We were charged an extra 4% for using our credit card. No fee disclosure on the contract and they would not lower the invoice to offset the fee or waive the 4% charge. I called to find a resolution and was told they would call me back. I never received a call and was sent a past due invoice reminder through email instead. A company this old and big should know better. Always disclose fees beforehand, it is not a good look. I chose this company based on the great initial customer service knowing that it was a bit more than their competitors and ended up paying even more in the long run. Ended on a sour note. Actual workers were great as was the front desk lady, Barbara. Chris, was very helpful and has great customer service skills, the guys behind the front of house, not so much. Disappointed.

Thanks for the honest review. I’ll start by saying I’m happy the project went well and you were pleased with Chris, your rep and project manager, as well as the installers. I’m sorry you were disappointed with the additional credit card processing fee. I’ve already asked all our reps to provide more information about payment options when the contract is signed so we can avoid this scenario in the future. This is the first time it’s been a problem, and hopefully it’s the last. Thank you for the business, and please let us know if there’s anything we can do for you in the future. Matt Sikkema at SG couldn’t have been better. We could tell from the get-go he was customer and detail oriented. He worked with us and checked up on us every step of the way through our insurance claim. He went above and beyond. Not to mention the full replacement only took 1.5 days with a great looking result. COULD NOT be happier.

Called Sherriff Goslin because our roof is fairly old and we have had hail a couple times this year. Ryan Waldorf was out the very next day to inspect it for us. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He did a great job of evaluating the roof and going over any potential issues with us. Him and his team were so quick and efficient at replacing our roof and working with insurance. The new roof looks amazing! The team cleaned up spotlessly…didn’t find a single nail. We will never recommend anyone else!
