The inspection and estimate process appeared thorough, and the installation crew worked hard. Unfortunately, my experience after installation was disappointing. As soon as the roof was completed, I noticed concerns with the flashing, sealant application, and other installation details. I asked multiple technical questions about what I was seeing, but instead of receiving explanations, I was repeatedly told the issues were cosmetic or covered by warranty. Several management inspections were promised but never occurred or occurred without my knowledge, and communication about follow-up was inconsistent. I also discovered that new gutters had been installed over visibly deteriorated fascia, despite the condition of the fascia having been discussed during the estimate. When I questioned why this had occurred, I was told it was a “communication issue.” Only AFTER I raised the concern was it determined that the deterioration extended beyond the fascia trim into structural components requiring additional repairs. Because I was unable to get clear answers, I contacted GAF directly to better understand the installation requirements associated with the warranty that had been represented. Based on those discussions and the information provided, I raised additional concerns with Gray Line. To the company’s credit, they returned to replace the flashing and install metal drip edge after I raised these issues. I appreciate that those corrections were made. However, my confidence in the project had already been undermined by the need for me as a the home owner to independently research manufacturer requirements, identify apparent installation concerns, and repeatedly advocate for corrective action. Construction projects don’t have to be perfect, but I do expect clear communication, transparency, and proactive quality control. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.

We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to provide roof replacement services for your home in Chesapeake Virginia. It is unfortunate and regrettable that your experience was not worthy of a higher rating. As you mentioned, these projects are often complicated with many challenges to overcome and require a high degree of specialized skills. Sometimes completing these challenges are not overcome with the first try. However, we take great pride in our willingness to see a project through to the end. Making sure we do not leave any aspect of the project undone. While it is unfortunate, we believe this is what separates us from other companies. The willingness to do whatever it takes and at any cost to ensure the project and situation are made right. Whereas, other companies, at the first sign of difficulty become defensive and combative. I think you can agree, throughout this process, this was never the case with us.

Ms. Lori. We sincerely apologize for your experience. Our recount of the interaction is a bit different than your description. We understand that you were not present for the on-site conversations with our representative, as was your husband. Nevertheless, it pains us deeply when a homeowner does not have a positive experience with us. Our owner did call you to attempt to right the situation, but you were unwilling entertain any options. We take our reputation very seriously and believe your review does not reflect our values, morals, and customer service that we provide every day. Our other reviews, that are nothing less than 5 stars are indicative of this. Our response to this review is intended to give the readers a perspective of the situation. It is with much regret that we could not come to resolution for your inconveniences despite our willingness to do whatever was necessary.

Hi Nicolle. We are so sorry your experience did not meet expectations. Transparency is very important to us, so it pains us deeply that was not your experience, and we sincerely apologize. We see the confusion with the website. We will make adjustments. Thank you for the feedback. For leak detection, the scope of repairs can often be determined from an attic inspection or simply a ground visual. The steepness of your roof makes it difficult to access without safety equipment installed on the roof and wearing full harness. So in these cases drone usage is an alternative, if necessary. It is almost impossible to complete a repair at the time of inspection, it takes planning of crews and purchasing of materials prior to being able to do the repair, so we must do the inspection first, provide a quote, and get approval before we complete any work. We wish you the best and hope you find resolution for your roof leak. Please feel to call our office if you have any other feedback. We will always be kind and receptive.

I am beyond thrilled that I hired this company for my new roof. Stephen came out to assess some concerns I had over some possible leaks. He was kind, very thorough, and knowledgeable. My husband and I decided to go ahead and buy a new roof versus fixing the existing damage. Within a week from receiving an estimate, the job was completed. Stephen called me daily to inform and involve me with everything that was happening. Once the roof was completed, I met with Darren, who was at the job site. It means a lot to me when the owner can visit the job site to ensure everything was done to satisfaction. I am amazed at the respect I was given, the superior customer service, and the professionalism of this company. After completion, the job site was spotless. All nails and debris were picked up; my yard is cleaner than it was prior to the installation! My new roof looks beautiful! Thank you to Darren, Stephen, William, and all the hard-working individuals who made this experience a positive one.

A leak in one room almost never starts above that room. Water travels along decking and rafters before it shows up on a ceiling. Roof repair is most of what we do, and the part that matters is finding the actual entry point rather than sealing the nearest suspicious spot. Gray Line Roofing handles roof repair across Chesapeake and Hampton Roads, on flashing failures, pipe boots, valley leaks and wind-lifted shingles. Our work is led by a licensed Professional Engineer, which helps when a repair turns out to be a structural question instead.19 hours agoLearn more
