Misrepresented solution, unsafe practices, and improper billing (Summer 2024) It’s been a year and I’m still so mad!! This company did fix the original roof leak in summer of 2024. However, the additional work that followed was based on inaccurate explanations and resulted in work I did not actually need or ask for. In addition to the leak repair, I asked about venting my attic, explaining that it becomes extremely humid during the summer. I was told that removing part of the chimney was necessary in order to vent the attic, and I authorized the work based on that explanation. The quote itself was confusing and not clearly explained in plain language. Before work began, I again verbally confirmed with a worker: “You’re venting the attic, right?” I wanted to be absolutely clear on the goal of the work. They proceeded to remove brickwork from my chimney down to the roofline. However, after the work was completed, it became clear that what was done did not actually accomplish proper attic ventilation. When I called back with a basic and reasonable follow-up question — whether the chimney was now safe to use, given that brick had been removed — the person I spoke with could not clearly explain how the system worked, what had actually been vented, or whether the chimney was safe. Instead of clear answers, my concerns were deflected. I figured since they MADE ME PAY FOR THE INCORRECT WORK they could at least tell me how THEIR MISTAKE could even be useful to me. Let me also add this cost me and extra $1,000!! Equally concerning was how the work was carried out: • No visible safety gear • A flimsy ladder • Bricks allowed to fall uncontrollably Despite the fact that the work performed did not correctly address attic ventilation, I was still charged for it. As a female homeowner, I was left with the strong impression that my questions were minimized rather than taken seriously. I knew what outcome I was asking for — proper attic ventilation — but that outcome was not

Hi Tara, I want to respond clearly and factually so anyone reading this understands exactly what was discussed and approved. You originally contacted us for a roof leak, not attic ventilation. That leak was correctly identified at the chimney area, which is a very common failure point. During the conversation, attic humidity was mentioned later as an additional concern, but it was not the reason for the service call. You were provided two written options, explained before any work was done: OPTION 1 – Chimney Repair (for chimneys still in use) Install new flashing around the chimney Cut flashing into the chimney Replace shingles as needed around the chimney (color not guaranteed to match) This option keeps the chimney intact and is appropriate only when the chimney remains in use. OPTION 2 – Chimney Removal Below Roof Line (for chimneys NOT in use) Remove the chimney below the roof line Repair decking and replace any damaged wood Install proper roofing materials (black board and EPDM rubber) to permanently seal the opening Install a roof box vent Full cleanup of materials and debris Option 2 is only appropriate when a chimney is no longer in use, and it was approved on that basis. You selected Option 2, and that scope was completed exactly as written. The roof leak you originally called about was resolved. To clarify an important point raised in your review: Once a chimney is removed below the roof line, it is no longer a functional chimney. Calling afterward to ask whether a chimney that has been intentionally removed is “safe to use” is not a reasonable or applicable question. For safety and liability reasons, roofing contractors do not advise on appliance operation or chimney use once a chimney has been decommissioned. Those questions fall under HVAC or chimney professionals and are outside the scope of roofing work. There was no misrepresentation, no unsafe practice, and no improper billing. You were charged only for the option you selected and

Dustin and Austin came out to repair our gutters from winter ice damage. They did a great job. They were professional, courteous and thorough. Thank you!
Reply from the business
Elizabeth, thank you for the kind review. Michigan winters can be tough on gutters, and ice damage can quickly lead to bigger water issues if it is not repaired properly. I’m glad Dustin and Austin took good care of you and delivered the kind of professional, thorough service we expect from our team. Being courteous, communicating clearly, and making sure the repair is done right matters just as much as the repair itself. We appreciate you trusting CS Roofing Company / FixRoof with your gutter repairs, and thank you again for the support. Chris Swearengin, Owner CS Roofing Company / FixRoof Fixroof.com (855) Fix- Roof

From the first contact to set up the estimate to the completion of the work CS Roofing was timely, professional, and fair. My job was smaller related to storm damage so flexibility is important because they will get you in quick with little notice when their schedule opens up to allow. This is an outstanding and ethical company based on my one interaction with three of their employees. (Scheduler, estimate, crew boss). The work was top shelf.

Jason, thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. Storm damage repairs — especially smaller roofing jobs — still deserve the same level of urgency, communication, and workmanship as a full roof replacement. I’m glad our team was able to stay flexible, get you scheduled quickly when an opening became available, and deliver professional service from the first phone call through the completed repair. Hearing words like ethical, fair, and top shelf means a lot because that is exactly the reputation we work to build every day. We appreciate you recognizing the efforts of our scheduler, estimator, and crew leadership. Thank you again for trusting CS Roofing Company / FixRoof with your storm damage repair. The team was prompt and polite. They worked diligently. I loved that a separate Foreman came out a few days later to inspect the work and created a punch list and ensured the team came back out to complete. Very thorough work!

Hi Rick, This is exactly the kind of experience we aim for—thanks for laying it out so clearly. Prompt, polite, and diligent is the standard for our crews, and having a separate foreman come out to inspect, build a punch list, and make sure every last detail is wrapped up is how we keep the quality bar high. Really appreciate you noticing the thoroughness. If you ever need us again, we’ll bring that same process and care back to your place. Best regards, Chris Swearengin Owner CS Roofing Fixroof.com

I thought the crew did an excellent job repairing the roof on my shed. I offered a couple of times to let them do some of the work from the inside and they said they didn't need to and did all the work from the outside of the shed. Afterwards they went around their entire work area with a magnet to get up any dropped nails or screws. They did their best to pick up every piece of the scrap and took it all with them. They did ask to go inside the shed to pick up some broken pieces of wood that fell inside. I would definitely recommend CS roofing to others.

Hi Dark Overlord, Really appreciate the detailed shout‑out. For a shed roof repair, working from the exterior keeps the mess outside and speeds things up—glad that approach worked well for you. The magnet sweep and full haul‑away are standard for us; nails and scrap don’t belong in your yard (or tires). Thanks, too, for letting the crew step inside to grab those broken pieces. Thanks for the recommendation—means a lot. If anything else pops up, we’ve got you. Best regards, Chris Swearengin Owner CS Roofing Fixroof.com

Targeted storm damage repairs completed. We removed two previously tarped areas and replaced missing ridge cap and shingles caused by storm damage to restore proper protection. Additional work included replacing all three pipe flashings, sealing the chimney, and repairing missing shingles along the backside hip. We also addressed nail pops in the valley and throughout the roof by removing and replacing affected shingles to ensure a secure, watertight system. Shingles were matched as closely as possible to the existing roof, though natural aging and weathering can make exact color matching difficult. All work was completed with full cleanup and debris removal. If your roof has storm damage or temporary patches, CS Roofing / FixRoof can repair it the right way. Aug 5, 2026Call now
