The Thomas Roofing company is no longer at 4353 arters mill rd. Westminster, MD 21158. I am the new owner of this property. If you are looking for the Thomas Roofing company DO NOT come to my address (4353 Arters Mill). I will have no choice but to contact the police. I've had too many angry people banging on my door.

Thomas roofing put a new roof and flashing on my roof a in 2016. In May 2017 water came through my ceiling at my fireplace. The flashing on the chimney had detached. When the flashing was repaired and this time secured, the Thomas roofing repairman stated that the flashing should have been secured with screws to avoid this problem. Mr Thomas initially stated that his insurance company would cover the repairs. A little over a month later the insurance company stated that they would not cover the repair because Mr. Thomas's insurance did not cover improper installation or materials. I contacted Mr Thomas several times, and he then stated that he would pay for the repair and I should find a contractor and send him an estimate. I obtained a contractor who sent Mr Thomas an estimate. Mr Thomas then said he would have a contractor he worked with do the repair. By this time it is early August. Mr Thomas's contractor came by, looked at the damage, and said he was unable to make the necessary repairs to the ceiling. I contacted Mr Thomas again asking him how to proceed---he requested I send him the estimate from the contractor who had sent him the estimate in June. Idid not receive any response to several emails. After finally reaching Mr Thomas by phone, he stated that he would not stand by his offer to repair the damaged ceiling. Mr Thomas stated that his contract does not cover flashing or interior damage resulting from leaks. He now also stated that my only recourse would be legal, after stating for 3 months that he would take responsibility for the repair.

Our Mechanic went to investigate the reports of a leak at the chimney. He found the copper expanded and contracted (typical of copper) and caused the caulk to crack. He re-caulked the flashing at the mortar joint and mechanically fastened with screws as an extra precaution. The original flashing was done to NRCA specifications. When the owner of Thomas Roofing visited the home to inspect the interior damage, he could not see any damage with the exception of three drip lines on the brick that extending down about 12 “. The ceiling was not stained or coming down. Mr. Copeland insisted the sheetrock against the chimney was sagging but we could not see any damage. Our Mechanic said it was a small leak to begin with as it was only a small opening in the caulk that was the source of the leak. Mr. Copeland put a level across the ceiling and it was about a 1/4” low in one spot. He started describing elaborate framework he thought we should build in the attic to support this small piece of sheetrock and we soon figured out we could not agree on a resolution. We thought it best to allow a third party to get involved. We contacted the insurance company to handle the repair as we are confident whatever we did to fix the issue it would not be “good enough”. We received a letter from Mutual Benefit saying the damage was not covered because the flashing was improperly installed. This was not true. The flashing is properly installed to NRCA specifications. The caulk just failed. It is our understanding Mutual Benefit never visited to investigate the damage. They simply took information from the homeowner saying it was wrong. We contacted the insurance company and our broker and this took some time to work out. In the mean time, Mr. Copland had another contractor he wanted to hire and wanted Thomas Roofing to make an unlimited dollar commitment in writing to do what ever he felt needed to be done. The repair estimate was already over $7,000 which included repairing/pain

Would not recommend. They required a deposit before scheduling the work, so I sent them a check and they deposited it. Never heard back from them. I called numerous times and left several messages, only some of which were returned. I was usually given an excuse and told that someone else would call me back to schedule the work. After almost a full month of wasted time, I requested a refund of my deposit and am back to square one. Not an acceptable way to run a business.

Based on our satisfaction with our new roof which Thomas Roofing replaced in 2016, my parents just used them to replace their roof and gutters. They were so happy with how quickly the work was done and the customer service provided by TJ. We will always recommend this company!
