I paid On The Roof Contracting owned by James and Heather Taylor $10,505.10 on November 11. 2024 after installing 2 metal roofs. It was agreed that he would return to finish the downspout problem. My mistake in trusting him has caused ongoing problems involving continuous seepage of water into the existing box gutters and roofing. After 7 months involving 4 voicemails from me starting on December 10th, 2024 followed by 4 emails, I have not heard from James Taylor. 83 days after speaking with Heather on March 25th 2025 on the phone, when she inquired about my frequent voice mails, I have not heard from Heather Taylor. In the meantime, I had the roofs inspected in terms of the downspouts by two different types of roofers : one from a well known company specializing in regular gutters and regular roofs but knowledgeable of all ; the other from a list given to me from The Historic Preservation Commission , Lexington KY. They both independently told me that nothing was done according to the manufacturer’s specifications and that the roofs need to be completely redone to prevent further damage. Now I am out $10,505.10 , in need of 2 new roofs and also need to repair whatever damage has been done. By the way, page 2 of my “order” says “All labor is guaranteed for a period of 2 years from the date of completion and receipt of payment in full."

I have not received any response from this company since I posted the following 1 year ago. ———— please see the following. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the services provided by On The Roof Contracting, with regard to the replacement of my roof. I entered into a contract with the contractor, and made full payment upfront, prior to any materials being ordered. However, after receiving payment, the level of service drastically declined. Several issues arose during the roof replacement process, including the absence of a site supervisor, poor workmanship, and failure to address various aspects of the project. Despite my attempts to communicate these concerns and request inspections and corrections, the contractor was unresponsive and refused to rectify any mistakes. Furthermore, he declined to furnish me with a copy of the Certificate of Completion for the roof replacement. Unfortunately, I only possess the contractor's phone number, and have been unable to locate his or his company's address. Moreover, he has blocked my husband's calls, rendering it impossible to reach him. This lack of communication and accountability has left me feeling frustrated and unsupported. Additionally, the contractor utilized deceptive tactics, involving his father, a neighbor, to facilitate the signing of the contract. Assurances were made by his father regarding addressing any issues that may arise, but these promises were not upheld. Furthermore, the contractor's subsequent disappearance from the neighborhood further exacerbated the situation. Despite my efforts to enlist assistance from my insurance agent and other professionals, numerous problems with the roof persisted. It was only through the intervention of a supervisor from another company that some issues, such as the inadequate installation of ice and water shields, were addressed. Moreover, discrepancies emerged regarding the replacement of chimney and step flashing, as well as the handling of pipe jack f

    Reply from the business

Good morning, this is James Taylor with On The Roof Contracting, responding to your review. Let's set the record straight. After a storm damaged many homes in your neighborhood, I was assisting my father, also a staff member, initiate repairs on his home. Your husband, uninvited, approached us asking for help in assessing the damage to your home, which we were happy to give. Your claim we used family to deceive you is absurd—you approached us uninvited. I personally explained the entire process—insurance claim, materials, installation—to you and your husband before we started. You both said you understood. Things went smoothly until installation day, when your husband, irate, accused our crew of using the wrong shingles as they installed starter strips over the drip edge. We tried to explain, despite a language barrier, but he wouldn’t listen, disrupting our team with baseless claims. You say I never inspected the roof, but that’s false. I came when asked, checked everything, and explained it to you both—you acknowledged you understood. Your review misstates facts. The pipe boot flashing you claim is wrong is installed correctly—covering the PVC pipe to prevent leaks. No leaks? Then it’s fine. The scuffed shingles you posted? Not present at time of my inspection. Post-hailstorm, a siding crew was on your roof and may have damaged them them with ladders or while walking on the roof during their install. If so, blame them not us. Later, you approached my father at his home. Even off-duty, he tried to address you, but your husband’s repeated loud outbursts drew neighbors out. After 15 minutes, he had to threaten police involvement to stop him. You claim a year of no contact, but I inspected your roof at your request. Your husband seemed satisfied when I left—why would we call again? Your “deceptive tactics” accusation is baseless—we don’t trick clients, especially not with family you sought out. Your husband’s hostility made this tough, and I won’t let my crew endure

On The Road Contracting knocked it out of the park. I have dealt with multiple contractors through out my years of building. James and his crew are the upmost professional. When he said he was going to be there, he was. I consider myself a very hard man to please. However, James and his crew exceeded all expectations. I highly recommend them for all your building needs.
