  Sales reps are not honest or accurate. Anything to get the insurance job right? Why give the homeowner an accurate bid before?

  II called for an estimate for a repair, they first asked for some photos on the problem site, after a few days they send a man to take a look. However I never got a real estimate although he said he would send me an email about it, I called again asking for an estimate after 2 weeks, again the answer was that they would send an email estimate soon, sure that I did not get it either! It is a waste of time going through the whole process.

  Hi Chip, we have a customer relationship management software system documenting all our interactions with our customers. Our CRM system clearly indicates an estimator came to your home on July 29th and emailed you an estimate on July 30th, the next day. He emailed it to your wife Shannon, that was the email we had on file per your request; he did not hear back. Since there was no response to the email, he called and left a voicemail on August 5th, but did not hear back. He called again on August 13th and left another voicemail and again he did not hear back. We've reached out via text as well.   They did a decent job replacing our roof but look elsewhere for minor repairs. We asked them to cover several gaps where squirrels were able to enter the attic. After two visits it still wasn't done properly, and then they didn't respond for 5 months. Then, when they wanted to collect payment they refused to do what they were supposed to initially without charging for additional hours.

We did explain that we’d be happy to continue addressing new entry points, but that additional work would require more time and labor.   Our neighbors had their roof done by Kaufman Roofing in June. Our houses are close together & we have a long driveway with a 70' retaining wall that was new last August. The roofers put their ladders on the top of the cap stones on our retaining wall & dislodged 2 of them & broke a third one in 3 pieces. My husband approached the roofing team to show them the damage & they just looked at him & basically shrugged their shoulders. They also came onto our property & removed some landscaping rocks we had stacked next to our AC unit & they took them to use as weights to hold down their tarps. They did not return them. In my boulevard garden they removed a plant support around one of my bushes, took a pliers & made a hook out of the support leg to help them unlock a vehicle they had locked their keys in. This I discovered the next day because the plant support was not put back in the correct spot & it looked deformed. Why didn't they take the time to straighten the support leg to its original shape? They had the tools to do it with. The lack of respect for our property & the damage caused made me wonder what kind of job they did up on our neighbor's roof. I think the roofing teams need to be better informed of proper conduct regarding neighboring properties & if they cause damage they need to own up to it.

Our project manager did meet with you onsite to address these issues directly, and we appreciate you taking the time to speak with him. Regarding the retaining wall, we had taken a photo before the work began which appeared to show prior damage. However, because the image didn’t clearly show the roof in the background, we understand that it couldn’t serve as definitive proof of timing. Out of fairness and in an effort to make things right, our project manager offered to take care of the repairs and compensate you for the damage, and we respect your decision to decline that offer. We’ve also spoken with our crew about the other concerns you raised to ensure this kind of situation doesn’t happen again. Our teams are expected to maintain high standards of professionalism, and we will continue to reinforce the importance of respecting every property we work near, not just the homes we’re hired to service. We value feedback like yours as it helps us improve, and we’re sincerely sorry for the frustration this experience caused.

  We had an extremely bad experience with Kaufman Roofing. We had a leak in our roof, and they thought it was most likely in our custom, built-in gutter system. They said they patched it up, but then it leaked the next time it snowed. In the meantime, they gave us a $30,000 estimate to have our entire gutter system, which is only 12 years old, completely replaced. Their estimator is a real bully and a horrible person to interact with. His name is Scott Wehrmeyer. He uses scare tactics, he talks over you, he’s impolite, and in our case, he didn’t even apologize for the fact that their patch didn’t even last one rainstorm. He just used it further evidence that we need to hire them to replace relatively new gutters. He never even got up on the roof to take a look at the gutter system or used a drone to take pictures or anything. He had one guy go up on a ladder in that one spot and take one picture and then say we need the entire system replaced. We eventually got it fixed with a reputable company. we got bids from several other roofing companies. Everyone else laughed at the idea that we would have a 12-year-old custom gutter system torn out and replaced for $30,000. They may have workers that do a good job, but I found Scott to be totally untrustworthy. I have never had to hang up in the middle of a conversation with anyone in my life, but I did with him. If I owned this company, I would not want him representing me. He’s a bully, he seems to be lazy, he doesn’t listen, he didn’t apologize, he just talked right over me and tried to scare me hiring him. Literally the total opposite of what any customer would hope for.

  It's unfortunate we can't attach photos of your "12-year-old gutter system" to this response. (We did, however post the photos on our response to your review on our Facebook page) It is obvious they need to be replaced; they are rusted due to lack of routine maintenance. Kaufman Roofing is one of the most experienced roofing contractors in the Twin Cities and Scott has been with Kaufman Roofing for 14 years; he’s very familiar with your type of gutter system and is correct in his assessment. Scott was at your home 6 years ago and let you know then if you don’t do proper maintenance and cleaning of your gutter system, it will fail before it’s time. Ad-hominem attacks on his character do not diminish the facts. The irony is, the “other roofing companies” who laughed at the idea of having your gutter system replaced are the ones taking advantage of the situation. If you were told your gutter system does not need to be replaced and that a band-aid will fix your rusting gutter system, you are throwing good money after bad. There are few roofing contractors with the ability to do a gutter system like yours, even fewer who have the capability of manufacturing them in their own in-house metal fabrication shop, like we have at Kaufman Roofing. In fact, even though you were informed your gutter system needed to be replaced, to permanently solve your leak issue, Scott agreed, at your insistence, to attempt a temporary fix, with no guarantee of its longevity. Therefore, we patched one area of concern twice and only charged $200; much less than it cost us to perform the work. At this point Scott reiterated the hard truth: to prevent further damage to your home caused by a failing gutter system, it will need to be replaced. Scott did the right thing; he determined that a more expensive “fix” to your gutter system would not be in your best interest. It may hold for a while, but with the condition of your gutter system, the only permanent solution is to have them re

  They did the roof in my house and at first, I was impressed with the attentiveness of the sale rep. Out of the 3 final roofers, they were great. But during the and after the roof replacement, they made rookie mistakes and damaged my property. They were not responsible anymore when I was asking to come back for the repairs. We were so exited to work with them but after this bad experience, I would not recommend them.

Our crew has over 25 years of experience and is known for the quality of their work. When you raised concerns about potential damage, we reviewed everything carefully. Although we had reason to believe the railing scratches were not caused by us (as the area was tarped ), we went ahead and repainted the entire railing to ensure you were satisfied. In addition, the dent near your garage door was clearly visible in the photos we took before starting your project. Our foreman discussed this with you when he was onsite, and you acknowledged the explanation at that time. We stand behind the work we did on your home and the efforts we made to resolve your concerns. While it’s unfortunate you feel this way, we believe we acted responsibly and respectfully throughout the process.

  Skip Kaufman. Shared my insurance estimate and was then ghosted. I know it’s a super busy time, but I don’t think a 2-minute call to provide a timeline or tell me they’re not interested in the job is too much to ask. I’m sure it’s purely coincidental that I happen to be a single woman.

  It's unfortunate you feel this way Ashley because we advocated for you with your insurance company. We did not ghost you, in fact, we stepped up to help you on this, because we felt your insurance company wasn’t being fair with you. We were working hard for you; we made several phone calls to your adjuster as well as escalating it to a manager, which we let you know via email. You even stated how you were having troubling getting in contact with your insurance company as well. Also, one of the owners of Kaufman Roofing is a woman.

  I'll start with the summary at the beginning: find another roofer. I had Kaufman replace a small flat roof (~6x14) on the back of my house. The initial site visit for quoting and the quoting process were smooth and professional. After I paid my deposit that basically ended, the project manager on my job (Luis) was nonexistent. No communication, no follow-up, constantly promising to call me back or schedule and not doing so, for weeks past their initial scheduling estimate. I don't care that they went past their ETA but when you tell me you're going to call me a certain day then never call, that's a problem. The only time they reached out to me was to push the start back a day at a time (at 7:30 each morning) for a whole week, when they only scheduled 2 days in advance in the first place. That's either someone with no business doing their job or a straight lie. Eventually we hit the Thanksgiving holiday and I had to push the schedule on my end and we agreed to start work when I came back. They again didn't follow up and when I called them the afternoon before scheduled start they were "just about to call me" to tell me they were going to have to push the start off again. Once the crew actually showed up, they seemed to do a fine job on the actual roof. Again no communication that they were here or that they were finished and nothing from Kaufman until a month later when I received the invoice. Where they doubled the billable labor and put about a 100% markup on the plywood they used. There was some additional work done and I'm not arguing that but they billed optimistically. And the punchline: they never pulled a permit. They claimed it was a "gray area" but 311 was clear when I called, permit is required. After speaking with them, they have now claimed they will pull a permit every time going forward to eliminate the gray area but I'm certainly not doing business with them again to find out whether they really mean something they say this time.

We strive to not only do outstanding work, but to have excellent communication with our customers. Our stellar customer service is one of the main things which separates us from our competitors, and it seems we missed the mark on your job. This is not typical for us, as you can clearly see from our other reviews. We take this feedback very seriously and held a company meeting and are taking measures to make sure we tighten up our communication process to ensure nothing like this happens again. You had four hours of unforeseen woodwork on you home and we we’re willing to work with you, since these were unexpected charges, and reduced it to only two hours.

  If you don’t pick Kaufman for your roof, you might be an idiot. I know because we were once idiots — and we used someone else, and they did an ugly job. Kaufman came and saved us, fixing intricate and complicated metal reglet that was done badly (cosmetically), years later. They made it look so great. And they were responsive and helpful throughout. Thank you!!

  I had an excellent experience working with Jake during a very stressful situation involving my roof and insurance company. From the very beginning, Jake was professional, responsive, patient, and incredibly helpful. He took the time to answer all of my questions, responded quickly, and always made me feel like he genuinely cared about helping me. Although I ultimately was unable to move forward with the roof replacement due to financial reasons, I still wanted to take the time to recognize Jake for the outstanding service he provided. He went above and beyond, and I truly appreciate all of his time, guidance, and professionalism. I would highly recommend Jake and this company to anyone looking for a roof replacement. Even though I wasn’t able to hire them, my experience was excellent, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to others.   Riley was excellent as we discussed options for our roof. He was genuine, honest, and very timely with responses. After getting multiple quotes Kaufman was affordable, fast to schedule, and delivered quality.   From our original meeting with Riley to the daily on site visits with Tom and his guys - to the quick and efficient process of replacing the roof - Kaufman Roofing is a company I would definitely recommend using. Jon Lindquist did a great job of explaining the process and details in the proposal which made me feel confident about the project.   We had Kaufmann Roofing replace our roof and gutters, and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish. Their communication was outstanding throughout the project—they kept us informed every step of the way, showed up when they said they would, and answered every question we had. The crew was professional, worked hard, and did a fantastic job on both the roof and the gutters. They also took great care cleaning up afterward, which I really appreciated. Finding contractors you can trust isn't always easy, but Kaufmann Roofing absolutely earned ours.   We hired Kaufman Roofing to replace our roof and install LP SmartSide on the front of our house. Jake Olmsted and the team from Kaufman did a wonderful job. The craftsmanship exhibited on our project from the roof to the siding was exceptional. The installation teams were great, they were accommodating and the job site was as if they’d never been here. Highly recommend!

  With all the companies coming around "check on storm damage," it was hard to know who to trust. From the setting up the meetings, to inspection, to install, to finishing. The communication and dedication to the small things make this an amazing company. I would highly recommend this to any one in Minnesota, especially Saint Paul!
