  I will give 0 stars for communication and 0 for professionalism. My wife works late at the hospital and does not get to bed until 1am. The crew showed up unannounced at my house and woke my wife up by climbing on our roof and doing their work. They then proceeded to open the side gate and enter my backyard without permission, without telling anyone what they were doing. Extremely rude and unprofessional. The crew was supposed to show up Tuesday, they never called texted or emailed saying they would now show up Wednesday. I sincerely hope this was a 1 time deal and it won't happen again. They did repair more than what was stated in the initial estimate and agian thank you. I am not asking for the money to repair the motorcycle mirror that got mysteriously broken when your crew was on my roof unannounced and dropped a blower on it. This incident may not reflect how they have done business for 21 years here in the valley but, it has persuaded me to not do business wirh them ever again. Multiple chances were given to communicate and all in all a very bad experience. I might add, I have an email promising a refund of my money for the roof repair. We have not seen the refund yet. Do not recommend doing business with this place.

For clarification, we communicated with Crissy regarding the inspection, estimate, and our first available repair date. When our crew was unable to reach your home Tuesday because the preceding job ran late, they completed your repair Wednesday. Once on the roof, our crew found considerably more damage than was included in the original $300 estimate. They repaired damage on the front and back of the roof, along with several smaller areas and previously repaired sections that were sagging. They used matching shingles and completed all of this additional work without increasing the agreed-upon price. Access to the backyard was necessary to repair the rear portion of the roof. We understand that you would have preferred the crew to announce themselves before entering, and we have addressed that expectation with them. The allegation regarding the motorcycle mirror was not reported to us until after the repair was completed. We have requested photos and additional information so we can speak with the crew and determine what may have happened. Although your roof was repaired and the work performed substantially exceeded the original estimate, we have refunded the full $300 as a courtesy. Given that the repairs were completed at no cost to you, we respectfully urge you to reconsider and remove this one-star review.

  Worst customer service ever. I paid my estimate fee and was promised 7 different times they would be out but did not show or call. When they finally made it their estimator did not call me as requested so I was not home and he did not address the problem I wanted them to look at. Now they are not answering my texts. If this kind of service appeals to you, by all means call them!

  I feel scammed. I called these guys when there was a leak in my preschool's membrane roof on a rainy morning. I was told they could come out that afternoon and we would need to agree on a maximum dollar amount and she suggested $500. She explained if the repair would be more than $500, they would call me for approval. I agreed. Later that day, I missed a phone call from her, called her back and she said that they already did the repair and it would be $750 (without my approval). That is my first complaint. My second complaint is $750 is outrageous for what they repaired, see photo. Another roofing company looked at the repair and said it should have been no more than $100. Beware.

  Kelli, I’m sorry this situation felt frustrating — that was not our intention. This was an emergency call during active rainfall at a preschool, so we rearranged our schedule to respond the same day to stop water intrusion and protect the interior. When our technician arrived, the leak was not immediately visible and time was spent tracing the source. Two separate leak points were located on the TPO membrane roof and both were repaired that day to stop further water entry. Because the roof was actively leaking, we work under a not-to-exceed authorization so repairs can begin without delay. Our office notes reflect a $500 authorization to begin emergency service, and we attempted contact when additional repair time and materials were necessary once the leak locations were identified so the water intrusion could be fully stopped. After the repair, we provided photos, documentation, and observations regarding the overall roof condition and drainage areas so you would understand the roof’s condition and any future concerns — not just the immediate leak. I would be happy to personally review the report and photos with you and answer any questions directly.   I was excited to use these guys as they seemed very kind and professional. I had a leak over my carport, and they assured me that they would fix everything properly. I spent $1,600 for the repair and with the first rain it leaked worse and in more places. I contacted them immediately and was told someone would come out and contact me. Time went on, called again, etc. It's been almost a year and 5 phone calls, and no one has come out or gotten back to me to either re-patch it OR replace the whole thing. If I hadn't used them I'd have an extra $1,600, less water damage, and and probably a properly fixed or replaced roof. I'm honestly pretty disappointed.

  Jayme, when we first spoke. You knew that the entire roof needed to be replaced. You said you didn't have the money to do. A temporary repair was initiated. You contacted us months later stated that it was leaking after a bid rain storm. We spoke, and I informed you that the bid that we submitted to replace the entire roof was still good on price. Offered money back to go toward the replacement. You said you needed you save money to be able to do the entire roof. You were aware how old the roof was, that it needed to be resheated and the problems that came with owning an older home. I have not heard from your in a while and I am disappointed that you came here to write a negative review instead of calling. I can easily send some out to tarp, mitigate, and help with the situated. But ultimately the roof does need to be replace. I am willing to work with you. You have a lot of work that needs to be done and I am more happy to do a 1. Payment plan, 2. Offer financing to allow you to get it done immediately. We seriously care about you and your home. We have pictures from original pictures from before repair and after. With a proper roof system I can GUARANTEE that the roof will not leak again. But a proper roof system does need to be done. You're welcome to call or text me directly.   We had a leak develop in our bedroom wall after a hail storm. Hawaiian Built Roofing had done our neighbor's new roof and they were very pleased with their work so I called them to diagnose our issue. They agreed to come out and set a time for when they would come. They arrived when they said they would and was able to determine our issue in a few minutes. They gave me an initial estimate that was a rough range for my benefit and followed up with a formal written firm estimate. Their firm estimate was at the very low end of their rough estimate so I was very pleased with that. They also noted an issue with the design of one gutter and agreed to remove the dish receiver as well. With the estimate we got on their schedule. They notified us ahead of time when they would be coming and they arrived on the scheduled day and time. The crew was friendly and professional. No loud music or anything other than work. They kept the work site clean and did not damage any property or plants. The work was completed that same day and they even cleaned my gutters for me while they were up there. They took photos of the issue and how they fixed it as I could not see it from the ground. All in all very professional and just what you expect from a company that cares about their customers. When we eventually need a new roof, this is the company I will call. There are probably cheaper roofers out there but in this case I believe you get what you pay for. I don't want a future leak in my roof and I want the job done correctly the first time. Hawaiian Built Roofing did that for us. We were totally satisfied with our job and have recommended them to our neighbors.

  We added an addition to our home, HBR crew took the extra time to blend the new and old roof shingles for a flawless transition. Looking at the roof from any angle, you cant tell where the old and new is. Excellent pricing, quick service. You can tell this team is all about the best job possible.

  Absolutely wonderful people Sandra was incredible. Our roof was damaged by a micro burst a couple weeks ago. Fair pricing quality work couldn't be happier working with a contractor. This time of year its hard to find quality contractors for smaller jobs. We had no issues with HBR. Thank you!

  I highly recommend Hawaiian Built Roofing, LLC if you are looking for a reliable roofing company in Boise, Idaho or anywhere in the Treasure Valley. I have personally used them multiple times since 2011, and the quality of their work has been exceptional every single time. In 2011, they installed a Presidential shingle roof on my home, and even now in 2026, it still looks just as beautiful as the day it was installed. The craftsmanship and quality have truly stood the test of time. In 2018, they installed four solar light tubes in my 1970s-built home, and it completely changed the natural lighting inside the house. The installation was seamless and professionally done. Most recently, in January 2026, they repaired a hole in the roof of one of my investment properties in Boise. The repair work was flawless — you honestly could not tell where the new shingles had been installed because everything blended perfectly. Hawaiian Built Roofing is thorough, professional, and stands behind their work. They warranted the work they performed, communicated clearly throughout the process, and always paid attention to the details. It is hard to find contractors you can truly trust, but after working with Hawaiian Built Roofing for over 15 years, they are the only roofing company I trust for my personal home and investment properties. If you need roof repair, roof replacement, or a new roof in Boise or the Treasure Valley, I absolutely recommend them.

I completely forgot about this article until I asked Gemini who the best solar roofing contractor in Idaho was—and this was one of the links it gave me. 😂 Roofing Contractor published the story behind Kenny’s master plan for our family home and why, after 35 years in roofing, he chose CertainTeed Solstice solar shingles for our own roof. And now we have a 2026 update: we purchased two electric work vehicles that can be charged with the power our roof produces. ☀️⚡️🚐 The plan is no longer something we are only talking about. We are living it. Our roof produces power. That power helps run our home and charge the vehicles we use for Hawaiian Built Roofing. We are reducing fuel costs, using more of the energy we produce and lowering the environmental impact of running our business. But this project was never just about new technology. It was about building a home that could create its own power and eventually pass to Nani and the twins as something that continues working for them—not another expense or burden. Kenny could have chosen any roofing system. The one he trusted for his own children, grandchildren and business vehicles says more than any sales pitch ever could.
