  I had a fortified roof installed by Fortitude Roofing Company, which was quite costly. I met with their salesman at my house and was directed to the website Certainteed.com to pick my shingle color from the Landmark Pro series. I wanted a GRAY shingle and picked the “Max Def Pewter” shingle color, which was clearly a GRAY shingle online. To make certain it was a GRAY shingle, I emailed my salesman and specifically asked if the Max Def Pewter shingle was a gray shingle and I was told with certainty the in fact, it was a GRAY shingle. The shingles were delivered and on the installation date, I was told for safety reasons to stay in the house. At the end of the day, when the roof was installed and it was “safe” for me to come out, I was SHOCKED to see the roof was a BLUE/GRAY WITH MORE BLUE THAN GRAY!! I was not a happy customer! I spoke to the job foreman who told me the “Max Def Pewter” shingle is more BLUE THAN GRAY! I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I got a call from the main office (Michael) who said “I understand you’re not happy with your new roof color “. He went on to tell me the company let go my salesman and since I still owed them $6000.00 that perhaps they could work something out and call it even. Then Sean, the owner of the company got involved and was cordial at first, telling me, he was going to look at my project and see what their profit was on the job and make an adjustment accordingly. It sounded like they were going to work with me and provide some kind of customer service…WRONG!! The next communication I received from Sean, wasn’t anything about their profit on my job, it was, “We talked to our lawyers and you have 10 days to pay the balance to them or they will turn it over to a collection agency! Since I care about my credit, I was left with no choice but to pay the balance and settle for a roof color that doesn’t match my brick home. I would NEVER recommend them to install a roof on your home. In no way was this my fault…o

Max Def Pewter is a popular color in CertainTeed’s gray category, but as with all shingles, lighting, surrounding materials, and online representations can affect how the color appears. We always recommend viewing samples in person to avoid surprises—something we respectfully advised. We ultimately fulfilled the contract and installed the exact product you selected.   Our experience with Fortitude Roofing was unfortunately not positive. 1) Fortitude installed a metal roof with discolored panels on our new construction build (see attached images). For the first few days after the installation Fortitude texted our builder that “they’d make it right”. Within a short period of time after that, it was then stated Fortitude Roofing nor the manufacturer would correct the issue. 2) When our community Architectural Committee informed us they would not be able to approve our home for occupancy with the roof the way it looked and the roof would need to be replaced (which we completely understand) we reached out to the distributor of the roofing material for any type of assistance. Upon sharing photos of the roof, we were informed the material Fortitude provided for the roof was not recommended for coastal applications nor was it warrantied as the roof is within 1500 feet of saltwater. The home is approximately 500 feet from the sound bank (The material was Galvalume) 3) Due to both of these factors our new construction build required a replacement metal roof, without assistance from Fortitude Roofing. In closing, I am writing this review not to hurt a small business but to advise people seeking a roofer of our situation and how it was handled by Fortitude Roofing. 8/8/23 Update: The response from the Fortitude team is appreciated. I did correspond with Mike M (a Fortitude employee) on 7/24/23. At no point did Mike offer to connect, only posed the threat they would be presenting my review to an attorney. Although the photos and warranty paperwork are clear, I still offered to revise any portion of my review that could be proven inaccurate. No feedback of inaccuracies were given by Fortitude.   We had this company install a new metal roof at our home in Pine Knoll Shores. Sean Claire the business owner promised that this new roof would be covered under the Institute for Business and Home Safety (Fortified Roof Program). This ensures you homeowners policy stays enforce and act as a uniform quality implementation. Me and my wife saw this as exactly what we needed to protect the value of our home. So, after some time after the roof implementation and we did not receive a copy of certification from the institute we contacted the insurance institute and learned that the owner pulled a fast one and did not provide a quality roof implementation and there will be no insurance certification. Do yourself a favor and look the other way when considering a quality roof install because we learned the hard way dealing with Fortitude Roofing out of Emerald Isle, NC. Now we have no idea if the installation performed was done properly. Another example of a contractor taking advantage of retired area residence.

  Len- We're disappointed in your review. On November 17 you left us a 5 Star Google review complimenting our work and indicating your satisfaction with our job. We understand you are frustrated because of a misunderstanding regarding the IBHS roof application, but we don't think your frustration is worthy of this type of review. We expressed that we as contractors cannot apply to IBHS on behalf of a homeowner. We thought you understood this because you did not talk about IBHS again. We wrote a contract that did not sell you an IBHS roof, which you reviewed, and authorized. Regarding not knowing if the installation was not done properly, we ask you to review the 200 photos that showcase our work from start to finish. In addition to photos, you spoke multiple times each day with our onsite project manager. He informed you about job progress and installation specifics. For anyone considering doing business with Fortitude Roofing we welcome the opportunity to discuss our qualifications and work product with you personally. We encourage you to reach out. We are transparent in our dealings and happy to answer questions.

  This man has insulted me and my character. He is pushy and even though his website says free quotes, he is now saying that he is sending me an invoice for his time. Please do not get a quote from this man, you will wish you hadn’t.

  Sadly, every now and then we interact with a customer that acts unethically. This is the case here. Customer and Fortitude Roofing had a good faith agreement that the customer did not honor. In dealing with Insurance Restoration, Fortitude Roofing does not charge for estimates and does not ask customers to sign contingency contracts. Rather, we offer our time and expertise in exchange for the award of work. We explained this to the customer. We also articulated that we charge a fee for our time in the event a customer wants to leverage our expertise but does not award us the work. (Standard business practice) She mentioned she understood and agreed- twice. When it came time to live up to her side of our agreement, she simply backed out. Upon receiving her Insurance payout, she stopped returned calls. Due to the customers' lack of response, we mentioned sending an invoice for our participation in her Insurance Inspection. Rather than call to discuss amiably, the customer became irrational. Through a series of 13 text messages sent within 2 minutes, she insulted our personal integrity and threatened to take to the internet to defame our reputation.

  We were very impressed with the salesman,Wade, who came by my elderly mothers house to check on her roof. He noticed her gutters needed to be cleaned and did them at no cost!! The integrity he displayed will have us looking to them to replace her roof soon!!

  I cannot say enough good things about Fortitude Roofing. From the very first meeting with Cameron through the final cleanup, the entire experience exceeded every expectation. When Cameron came out to provide our estimate, he took the time to walk us through every detail of the process. There was never any pressure; just professionalism, transparency, and excellent communication. Every timeline, expectation, and step they outlined was executed exactly as promised. One of the things that impressed me most was the communication throughout the project. I received access to a photo gallery that was updated in real time throughout the day of the install with well over 100 photos documenting the progress. It was incredible to be able to see exactly what was happening on my roof at every stage of the process. That level of transparency and documentation is something I’ve never experienced with a contractor before. On installation day, Deven, the site manager, was outstanding. He kept me informed throughout the day, answered questions promptly, and made sure everything ran smoothly. His professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail gave us complete confidence that our project was in great hands. I have to especially recognize the roofing crew. They worked unbelievably hard in 90+ degree heat during the roof tear-off and replacement. Their work ethic was truly impressive, and it was clear they took great pride in what they were doing. What absolutely blew me away was the cleanup. I was home during the install and saw the incredible mess it made and fully expected to spend time picking up debris around the yard, bushes, flower beds, and porch. Instead, they left everything cleaner than when they arrived. The attention they gave to protecting and cleaning our property was remarkable. I tried to find SOMETHING to pick up and couldn’t.   I have engaged Fortitude Roofing Company on two separate occasions. In both instances, Dominick personally evaluated the scope of work and made site visits throughout each project to monitor progress. In October 2025, a total roof and skylights replacement, along with a total roof replacement on a standalone building, was completed. In May 2026 roof repairs on another home was completed (the roof was installed by a different company many years ago). The owner of Fortitude Roofing Company provided a detailed photo report outlining the roof issues that needed repair, which proved extremely helpful in allowing me to clearly see the problems firsthand. Dominick ensured that completion to my satisfaction was achieved on each project. I must also commend Deven and his crew for the October project, and Nathan for this month's work. They all went above and beyond and worked seamlessly with tireless effort. A live feed link was provided during the October project, which I found quite helpful for viewing real time photos and monitoring the progress of the work. As a fellow veteran, I especially appreciated Dominick and Deven's professionalism, work ethic and attention to detail. Additionally, Jacob and Justin were quite helpful as well. From my initial interaction with Fortitude Roofing Company in August 2025 until present, their customer service, commitment and communication have always been excellent. Fortitude Roofing Company supports causes that are deeply personal to me, such as Autism and Alzheimer's. Highly recommend!!!

  Fortitude Roofing was amazing. We were unsure going into the process of getting estimates and such. We made a appointment with Cameron and we knew pretty early he was going to be our guy. He was knowledgeable, professional, thorough and a pleasure to deal with and he didnt just sell us a fortified roof, he explained to us exactly what we were getting and what our options were. He even stopped by during the job to check on how we and our dogs were doing. Deven our project manager was the epitome of professional keeping us updated and informed and being available throughout the entire job. Speaking of the job, Devens crew did a great job, quickly and professionally. I was impressed they could pull off an entire job in one day, including a thorough clean-up. We are so happy with the look, the cost and the ease of acquiring our new fortified roof. I've already recommended Fortitude Roofing to friends. Cameron and Deven are rock stars.
