Had my asphalt shingle roof replaced. The team was fast, efficient, and completed the work in one day. They did a great cleanup of all the old nails etc. I noticed more the next day and asked if they could return to do another pass of cleanup as I have young kids, and they sent someone the same day. Would recommend if looking for roofing work.

Most Ottawa homeowners have never heard of ice and water shield. That is understandable because once the roof is installed, it is completely invisible. But in Ottawa's climate, it is one of the most important components in your roofing system. It is the waterproof membrane applied directly to the roof deck beneath the shingles. When ice dams form along the eaves and force meltwater back under the shingles, the ice and water shield is what stops that water from entering the structure. Here is the thing most homeowners do not know: Ontario Building Code only requires two feet of coverage at the eaves. In a region that experiences over 50 freeze-thaw cycles per year, two feet often is not enough. A significant ice dam can force water well past that point. At Tailored Home Improvements, we install six feet of Resisto ice and water shield at all eaves and valleys on every roof. That is three times the code minimum, and it is included as standard practice, not an upgrade. If you are getting quotes for a roof replacement, ask every contractor how much ice and water shield they install. The answers will tell you a lot about the quality of the roof you are going to get.Aug 3, 2026Learn more
