Terrible, negligent, all around awful. I’m a tenant in a property they just did major roof repairs on and it was an absolute nightmare! First of all they were asked if the house should be vacated during the work and they said no. I had dust and debris coming in through screened openings in the ceiling because they didn’t bother to cover them when they tore the roof off which I would think they should do as soon as they were visible. They wouldn’t even cover them when I ran outside to notify them of the situation, in fact they just kept banging away while was telling them and while I was trying to cover them up from the inside. They also broke and detached the vent pipe for the sewage line that runs up along the house and through the roof. In fact none of the workers even said anything about breaking it. I brought it to the attention of the project “manager” well before the job was completed while there was still enough time to ensure that the pipe could be put back in the proper place. Of course that wasn’t done and now I have a big pipe sticking out at a height that is right where one will be sure to smack their head into it. They took almost zero precautions to prevent damage to personal property in and around the house. They knew that occupants were in the home during the work hours and they did absolutely nothing to prevent dust, debris, and probably toxic stuff from getting into the house. Overall the work crew was at the very least negligent and I would have to say incompetent. The roof might look a lot better and be in better shape but that’s the only nice thing I can say.

Thank you for sharing this with us, we do strive for good customer service and we are sorry the project did not go as smoothly for you as a tenant as was intended. We install these types of reroofs on a daily basis and typically no additional measures are required of the tenants and they can easily live in the property while the reroofing is being done. Per the records on this project, on the pre-site inspection to prep the property plastic was offered to cover items inside in the event of excessive dust, our project manager also offered for our crew members to assist with covering items with plastic. It was indicated that no one should enter the property to assist, which is totally understandable. This project did have a substantial amount of dust due to the 4 layers of roofing that had built up over the last 40 years and the type of ceiling structure. These older properties can have unforeseen obstacles and in the case of this project that is what occurred. Our project manager strived to stay in communication to mitigate issues as they arose. We apologize we fell short on preparing you as a tenant for all the possibilities. In regards to the pipe we have corrected the situation as best as possible as an interim measure, another solution will be employed at a later date when the proper tools are on-site and weather permits. We would like to offer you an inconvenience/cleaning compensation for the inconvenience of having dust enter your property. If this is a satisfactory resolution can you please reach out to our office so we can coordinate it with you. We will also discuss this with your property manager/landlord so they are aware that we are working to resolve the situation. We are glad the aesthetic of the roof replacement was satisfactory. Mahalo, Surface Shield

Surface Shield Roofing did an excellent job with my leaking roof. In August, I called SSRC and Nick their estimator, impressed me with his excellent customer service and knowledge of my roofing needs and scheduled my job. Their project …

Shon’s crew did an outstanding job replacing our 1960s vintage tile roof with a modern standing seam metal roof. Where there was previously open skip sheeting underneath the tile, they put down a solid plywood base, added a waterproof high temperature stick-on underlayment followed by 1 inch foam insulation, then a good-looking Country Red metal roof and solar powered attic ventilation fan. I was very happy to see them do a thorough cleanup afterwards, and salvage nearly all of the old tile for potential reuse elsewhere on island. Project Manager Chaz kept me informed of their progress. He and daily crew chief Edgar answered any questions that I posed to them. I wholeheartedly recommend Surface Shield Roofing (SSRC Hawaii) and I’m hoping Google lets me append photos to this review as the pictures tell the story.

This company is excellent. Every person I was in communication with from Nick (who gave us a quote AND helped us out with waterproofing even before it was our jobs turn) to Chaz (who was our project manager and truly gave us top notch customer service) to the others I spoke with in the office and accounting departments, we just got treated with so much kindness and professionalism. The completed job looks amazing and has really helped transform the exterior of our house. We couldn’t be happier with the entire experience and finished work and will definitely hire them again when we have roofing needs in the future. Thanks guys!

Professional and quick to respond. After reaching out to multiple companies Roy from Surface Shield Roofing gave me a call immediately. I have a home in Waipio gentry and he was very knowledgable about the type of roofs allowed in that area as the HOA has specifics rules and gave us a very competitive quote for 3 different approved roof types. He also gave us suggestions on quick fixes which I appreciated as some roofing companies imply try to sell you on the most expensive solution. If you are looking for competitive prices with a company who has integrity definitely reach out to these guys. Thanks again Roy!

I was so pleased with the work done to our third floor at Campbell Ave and especially Mr Percy Wong. He was also available and quick responds when we had a question to ask. And also your reference to SVS Concrete what a tremendous work Salvador did for us. Thank you Edean Iwanaga

We were very pleased with the work done by Surface Shield. After getting several quotes for sealing our 500 sq ft flat asphalt roof we went with Surface Shield because their estimate was competitive and the estimator Ryan was very responsive and prompt in getting back to us. The work was done very well and they took special care during the cleaning process to avoid any debris getting on our pool deck or in the pool. They completed the work in a timely manner and are even doing some paint touch up on the roof that we requested at no charge. We highly recommend this company and will definitely keep them in mind if and when we do a larger roofing project. Definitely 5 stars for professionalism and thorough completion...a job well done! :-) Update: when we had the paint touch up done we had them check out the main roof for a leak we noticed in our bottom floor ceiling recently. They found the problem and fixed it! These guys are the best!! :-)
