  This team of workers did an excellent job ripping off the old roof, replacing sheets, and installing a new roof over two houses in one day! They were fast, efficient and cleaned up beautifully afterwards. I highly recommend them for all roofs including difficult, steep 10/12 roof replacements.

Black streaks and green growth on a roof in Kelso or Woodland look like the same problem. They're not, and the treatment that eliminates one can permanently damage the roof if applied to address the other. Algae (Gloeocapsa magma) causes black or gray streaks that run down asphalt shingles following the direction of water flow. It feeds on the limestone filler in shingle granules. Algae doesn't significantly damage shingles structurally, but it holds moisture and accelerates granule loss over time. It responds to a low-concentration sodium hypochlorite rinse, applied and left. No brushing, no scrubbing, no rinse pressure. Moss is different. It anchors to the shingle surface with rhizoids, tiny root-like structures that work between granules and loosen them. Moss retains standing moisture against the shingle face long after rain clears the surrounding roof. On a north-facing slope with tree cover in Cowlitz County, moss can sustain itself through the driest part of summer. Pressure washing removes the visible growth but destroys granules in the process. The correct sequence is a chemical application to kill the plant, then letting it die and wash off naturally over subsequent rains. Zinc or copper strips installed at the ridge release trace metal oxides with each rainfall and limit regrowth on both organisms over time.10 hours ago
