  We hired Millwall to replace the roof on our older Vancouver home in the fall. The work was completed quickly and price was reasonable, however quality of work and customer service was not great. A number of issues were identified, fascia board miter joint is noticeably off center, nails to fasten to the framing missed the framing and gable boards were knocked loose. Was at first offered a refund of $300 then told the issues would be addressed. That was 6 months ago and we have not heard anything since.

  I emailed this customer as soon as this review was posted, three days ago. I asked him what he wanted and there has been no reply. This old home needs a lot of work on the exterior. Contrary to what he claimed, we did an excellent job on the roof. Also, I recommended a company that refurbished his chimney. The quality of the chimney work was also good. When you install new shingles, with plywood on an old house, it will make it even more obvious of how many problems the home has. Gable and fascia boards were warped, soffits were sagging and may have rot. The stucco walls needed repair. I told the homeowner that when we pull the old gable boards off, there is a chance that the soffits might come loose, and they sure did. We charged him less than $300 to supply and install a couple of gable boards. There was very little to nail to but I think the roofer did a decent job. He did miss with one nail, which the photo shows. We also went back once to caulk the small gap in the mitre cut. I showed up and listened to his concerns but he didn't want to hear what I had to say. We were not hired to fix all the defects of his home. He did not pay us to do that. Also, I offered him a full refund for the fascia boards, hoping he could hire a skilled carpenter and pay the going rate to fix the soffits. He declined and thought that I should just fix it all. The soffit problem was not even in the scope of work. He is still welcome to a refund of the fascia boards if he removes this unfair review. Darrell Macdonald, owner of Millwall Roofing.

  Very unprofessional In May 2018 we got a quote from Millwall Roofing to re-shingle our roof. We of course got quotes from various roofers. When we contacted Millwall to say that we would like to go ahead with them, since their quote was the best and included chimney work, Darrell asked us what the other quotes were. We thought this was unusual, and just stated that his was the lowest. He then said he wanted to revisit the price. After stating that he should stick to his quote, he finally agreed to do so. Since we have a rental suite in our house, we decided to postpone the work until September, when we would leave it vacant so as not to disturb the tenants. We told Darrell this, and he said he had one job scheduled for just after Labour Day, and that he would do our roof next. When we contacted him in early September to firm up a date, he said that he was now not available until October. We reminded him that we had arranged this months in advance, and that we had left the rental suite empty (and lost one month’s rent), so that the job could be done. He refused to honour his commitment to do our roof as planned. In our view, the attempt to revise his original quote, plus inconveniencing us in relation to our rental suite when we had planned the work months in advance, are both very unprofessional.

  Facts: When I get awarded a job, sometimes I ask how close the quotes are. I was told my price was considerably lower. For that reason, I did want to revisit the price to see if I made a mistake. Many things happen over three months: Jobs take longer than expected, rain backs up our schedule and materials pricing can fluctuate. I also said that, weather pending, the roofing job could have been done in the time constraints. When we spoke, I mentioned that the price of materials have increased and I was not given any assurance that the customer would have been willing to pay for the price increase. What I can take away from this experience is to rescind my bid from the start and avoid such misunderstandings. -Darrell Macdonald, owner of Millwall Roofing.

  Millwall did a great job of replacing our 40 year old cedar shingle roof with asphalt shingles. I really appreciated the fact that their crew showed up as scheduled. Their crew was meticulous, professional and very hard working in spite of 30+ temps. Dealing with the owner Darrell was a pleasant experience. I highly recommend Millwall Roofing.

  Millwall Roofing recently replaced our roof and did an excellent job. Darrell was always responsive, showed up on time, and kept every clean throughout the project. The whole process was smooth and professional and we are really happy with the final result.   We had a great experience with Millwall Roofing from start to finish. We found their quote to be reasonable and fair for the scope of work. Darrell, the owner, was very quick to respond throughout the process, and as part of the service, tarped our roof to take care of the leak until the weather improved enough for the roof to be replaced. He took the time to answer all of our questions thoroughly and made sure we understood our options without any pressure. The installation team, led by Sam, was outstanding. They were professional, efficient, and clearly took pride in their work. The work was completed ahead of schedule and with great attention to detail. Overall, we’re very pleased with the result.   I had a very helpful experience getting a second opinion from Daryl at Millwall Roofing. I’d been told by a door-knocking company that I had a major mold crisis and needed a full roof replacement. Daryl came by, took an honest look at my shingles, and had a straightforward conversation with me about their actual condition. He didn't try to upsell me or create unnecessary panic; instead, he gave me his professional opinion that the roof has plenty of life left and that the 'mold' I saw was likely just old staining, his integrity was clear. I highly recommend chatting with him if you want an honest assessment of your roof or need work done.
