Hi Alastair, We regret that this situation occurred and understand how stressful it has been. To clarify, Cooper Roofing’s official invoice was issued on August 6, 2025 at 8:56 a.m., listing info@cooperroofs.ca as the only payment address for e-transfer. The fraudulent message requesting an e-transfer was sent on August 7, 2025, almost a full day later, to a personal Gmail account (trishcampbell406@gmail.com) that does not belong to Cooper Roofing and is not listed anywhere on our invoice instructions. A staff mailbox was unfortunately compromised, allowing the attacker to send messages from our domain. Once identified, we immediately secured the account, enforced multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all users, upgraded to Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 2, and strengthened our SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records to enhance protection against phishing and spoofing. It is important to note that the payment was made to an external Gmail address (trishcampbell406@gmail.com), not to Cooper Roofing, and the fraudulent message contained clear warning signs including non-company addresses. Despite this, we offered to reimburse 50 percent of the loss as a fair resolution. We also requested direct contact with the client’s bank fraud representative to confirm the claim, as financial institutions often provide reimbursement through their own insurance coverage in such cases. This information was not provided, and instead, the client demanded full payment while also threatening to post negative reviews across multiple platforms and taking legal action if his demands were not met. The project itself was never started because no deposit was received through the authorized payment channels. Once payment clears, projects are moved to the scheduling phase in our production process, but in this case, the funds were diverted externally before reaching us. We take cybersecurity and transparency very seriously and have implemented safeguards to prevent any recurrence. We

Very disappointing experience. Our estimator told us we were hiring a premium roofing company. The quality of the install did not live up to that promise, in my opinion. Here are the three major issues I had with this company... …

Hi Brent, We’re disappointed to read this, especially after the time and effort that went into addressing everything on your project. There were issues, specifically with relying on the crew’s word to our project manager. That’s on us. Once we realized that trust wasn’t there, we removed that crew from our team. We have clear standards for our installations, and this situation did not meet them. After the deficiencies were brought forward, we returned to site and corrected the areas, including the underlayment concerns and cosmetic items. We stand behind the work and ensured the issues were addressed. On the invoice, any items that were not completed were removed once identified. That should have been handled more cleanly on our end. Regarding the change order, crane deliveries in Vancouver are not always possible due to access, vehicles lining the streets, power lines, and site conditions. When that happens, materials need to be transported manually, which is extremely labour intensive and requires additional safety measures. This is outlined in the signed proposal. That said, we could have communicated this more clearly upfront, and we now include pricing for manual delivery scenarios during the quoting stage. A $2,000 discount was applied to help offset those additional costs. The gutter contractor you hired also caused damage to areas of our completed work, which we repaired at no charge. At the end of the day, we made a mistake with the crew, took action, and made sure the issues were fixed. While this wasn’t a smooth experience, we followed through and stand behind the finished product. Shane Cooper - Owner

Needed work done on my roof and found Cooper Roofing recommended by ChatGPT. I called them and was transferred to the VR receptionist...a different experience. But they took all the information and a representative followed up with a phone call and booked a site visit / assessment for the next day at 09:00. They also sent a follow up email calendar reminder. I re-arranged my schedule to accommodate the site visit. I was surprised when no one showed up for the appointment. After 10 minutes, I called the representative to see if they were still coming as I had other commitments. No answer. I called Cooper Roofing and the VR receptionist advised that the Project Manager would get back to me shortly. No call. I called back the representative. No answer. I left a VM. No call back. I called back Cooper Roofing. The VR receptionist continued to cycle back to the greeting as they could not find anyone to transfer the call to. Brutal customer service. Cooper Roofing did get back to me several days later and advised it was the VR error not knowing their holiday work schedule. Wow. Obviously I would not recommend this roofing company.

    Reply from the business

Hi Michael, Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback and for bringing this to our attention. First and foremost, we’re genuinely sorry for the experience you had. Missing a scheduled site visit and failing to communicate properly is not acceptable, and we fully understand how frustrating that would be, especially after you rearranged your schedule. To provide some context: this occurred during our office closure from December 25 to January 1. During that period, no team members were working, and calls were routed to a newly launched AI receptionist. Unfortunately, there was a breakdown between the AI scheduling logic and our holiday closure settings, which resulted in an appointment being booked when our team was unavailable. That’s on us. You’re absolutely right to call this out. It highlighted a gap in our systems that we are actively correcting so this does not happen again. New technology should improve the customer experience, not detract from it, and we clearly have some kinks to work through. I did reach out personally to apologize for your experience, and I appreciate you taking the time to hear me out. We’re grateful you raised the issue so we could address it properly. We take accountability seriously and are committed to delivering a far better experience than what you encountered here. Shane Cooper - Owner

I had an unsatisfactory experience with Cooper Roofing that I feel compelled to share. Initially, I was not informed that there would be a 4-6 week wait before any repairs could be made, which was both disappointing and inconvenient. After the estimate was provided, it took over a week to receive the actual quote, yet I received an invoice for the estimate the very next day. The entire process felt disorganized and communication was challenging throughout. Had I known the extended timeline before agreeing to the estimate, I would not have proceeded with the service or paid for the estimate. Additionally, the quote provided was 30-40% higher than the other estimates I received. Ultimately, I chose to work with a different company that offered better customer service, faster response times, and a more streamlined process. To further complicate matters, I continued to receive emails for over a week requesting payment for the quote, despite having already paid it promptly the day after their visit. Given these issues, I would not recommend Cooper Roofing based on my experience.

Update: After speaking with John regarding his experience, we issued a full refund for his call-out fee. Additionally, we have improved our standard operating procedures to ensure clearer communication and a smoother process for our customers. Moving forward: -Clients are informed of the estimated repair timeline during the initial call. -Call-out fees will only be invoiced after the estimate has been sent or the work is fully completed. -Repair estimates are sent within two business days to prevent unnecessary delays (additional days may be required for complex projects). -Before any invoice reminders are sent, we now ensure that all deposit entries in QuickBooks are allocated correctly to avoid unnecessary follow-ups on invoices that have already been paid. -We strive to remain competitive while offering fair pricing. Other companies may estimate differently based on how they allocate hours and the scope of work covered in their quotes. We always aim to provide transparent, high-quality service that reflects the true cost of a thorough and long-lasting repair. John, we truly appreciate your feedback, as it has directly contributed to improvements in our operations and customer experience. Hi John, I’m very sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. I apologize for the confusion around our scheduling and invoicing process—it’s clear we fell short in communicating our timelines and procedures. Your concerns have been shared with our team, and we’re actively working to improve our processes and communication so that no customer faces these issues again. I understand your frustration, especially regarding the unexpected wait times and follow-up emails. While I regret that we didn’t meet your expectations, I hope you’ll know that your feedback is helping us make necessary changes for the future. I would like to offer you reimbursement for the call out fee that you incurred and if you’re open to it, I’d welcome th

They came and gave me an estimate, I said "Great!" and paid my deposit as requested to seal the deal. Then I waited...and waited...all thru the sunny, dry months of August and September. Long story short. After being strung along, in October I had to ask for my deposit back because they still were not able to find people to do the work and they had no idea when they might be able to do it. They wasted my time and my chance to get the work done while it was dry. I was TOTALLY let down by Cooper and I would not recommend doing business with them.

    Reply from the business

Hi Mary, I really appreciate your feedback. It was never our intention to string you along or waste your time. I apologize for the delays on your project. At the time of your project, we were facing labor shortages and our lead installer on your project was dealing with family issues. This caused a delay in our repair production schedule. Our team has grown since and we continue to vet and onboard new employees that align with our values to ensure these delays are reduced. We always strive to provide the best customer experience possible. If there is anything we can do at this point to improve your experience or if you would like to discuss further, I would be happy to hear from you. I also contacted you personally and left a voicemail and included my contact information. Thank you Shane Cooper - Owner

Wants to charge me $350 to come to my home and potentially do an hour job, no free quotes from this company. Not to mention how rude the receptionist was, not recommended!!

    Reply from the business

Hi Linda, Thanks for sharing your feedback — I’m sorry to hear we didn’t meet your expectations. Just to clarify, we do offer free estimates for full roof replacements and new roofs. For repair work, we charge a call-out fee, which helps cover the cost of sending a two-person repair crew to your property. Even smaller jobs involve vehicle costs, travel time, diagnostic assessments, safety gear, and the time of skilled technicians. This is a common practice among reputable roofing companies to ensure quality and safety on every job. I also want to apologize if your experience with our receptionist felt anything less than respectful — that’s not how we want to come across, and I’ll be looking into that personally. If you're open to it, I’d be happy to talk this through with you directly or see what we can do to improve your experience. Thanks again for your feedback Shane Cooper - Owner

Disappointing first impression and poor communication. I initially booked an estimate with Cooper Roofing for a date 10 days out. The next day, their office called back offering an earlier opening: the following morning at 9:00 AM. I explained that I had to leave strictly at 10:00 AM, and they assured me the estimator would be on time. After waiting 30 minutes past our appointment time, I called the office only to be told I wasn't even on the schedule for that day. There is an obvious disconnect in their administrative process. I had to rearrange my schedule to be home for this, which was highly frustrating. In contrast, competitors like Absolute Roof and Goodvans Roofing arrived exactly on time. Absolute Roof even provided a comprehensive estimate with three different options later that same day. First impressions are everything, and based on Cooper’s high reviews, I expected much better professionalism. Edit: Shane Cooper reached out to me directly via email and left a highly professional voicemail. He took full ownership of the error and apologized sincerely on behalf of his team. Shane also emphasized that there was no pressure to continue using their services, and kindly provided a compensatory gift card.Based on this exceptional customer service and professionalism, I have chosen to reschedule my appointment. My impression of the company has changed drastically for the better. I am thoroughly impressed so far and look forward to our upcoming site visit with the estimator. Thank you, Shane!

Hi Johnny, thanks for flagging this, and I'm sorry for the mix-up. This one's on us. Our office made a scheduling error, and that's why our estimator wasn't there when you were expecting him. There's no excuse for that, especially when we know how valuable your time is. I've reached out to you directly by phone and email to apologize and make it right, and we've tightened up our process so it doesn't happen to the next person. I was in needed a roofing company that met basic criteria; 1. BBB recognized 2. Quality company offering a quality product 3. Transferable warranty Cooper roofing met the criteria and a site visit was scheduled promptly. Within a week, Sebastian was on site and discussing the options cooper roofing could offer that suited my needs. I could tell he was passionate about his job and was extremely knowledgeable. I have had other company’s perform a site visit and and quote me significantly more that what was discussed on the phone. I value honesty and transparency as these qualities reflect the integrity of the person as well as the company. Sebastian was honest and transparent which I value immensely. As my roof may have a much larger structural concern, he was straight up with me and informed me that my required work was beyond the scope of cooper roofing. While I may not be in a position to get my roof repaired at this time - until I address the structural issue- Sebastian represented cooper roofing well with professionalism and transparency. I hope to do work with Sebastian and cooper roofing in the future.

Matt, thank you for taking the time to write this. Sebastian's exactly the kind of person we want representing us, honest first, even when that means telling you we're not the right fit for the job right now. That matters more to us than closing every sale. I know a structural issue isn't what you want to hear, but I'd rather you find out from someone being straight with you than get a quote that ignores the real problem. We had our roof replaced by Cooper Roofing a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier. The company was very easy to deal with and all staff that we had contact with were polite, professional, patient and welcoming. From the first phone call to the final email, we felt respected and valued as clients. Things unfolded exactly as they said they would and all and schedules were met. Everyone that we had personal contact with were great and all technicians that attended the site (our house) were polite and smiling. We highly recommend that anyone wanting an excellent company to address issues regarding their roof, or who are seeking replacement of their roof, consider Cooper Roofing, we are glad that we did.

Great service, from pre-sales phase all the way to execution and project wrap-up. I was impressed at the level of detail the Cooper team provided during the roof install via their nightly status update. Pricing was comparable to other big players out there. The guys who go up on the roof to install were great bunch of guys who know what they were doing. Treated them to Tim Hortons once for the work they were doing 👌. Overall, a happy customer here.
