BUYER BEWARE: "Attorney General Kathy Jennings, through her Consumer Protection Unit, has filed a motion asking the Superior Court to enforce a subpoena against Mastercraft Contracting, LLC (“Mastercraft”), a home improvement contractor that has had multiple consumer complaints filed against it. After nearly three months, Mastercraft has failed to substantively respond to the subpoena. This comes after Mastercraft was previously ordered by the Superior Court in 2025 to respond to a similar CPU subpoena. After receiving and reviewing documents responsive to the 2025 court order, CPU sent this subpoena seeking additional documents in early 2026 as part of the next phase of CPU’s investigation. The DOJ is investigating whether Mastercraft has violated Delaware’s consumer protection laws after receiving complaints that Mastercraft targets homeowners that have recently experienced significant storms and uses misleading door-to-door sales and time tactics to sell its roofing and construction services. “Consumers should never be strong-armed into paying for services or be made victim to frivolous, extortionate lawsuits,” said Attorney General Jennings. “We’re asking the Court to step in so that that our Consumer Protection Unit can continue to do its critical work investigating these predatory practices.” According to an affidavit filed with CPU’s motion, CPU has received multiple consumer complaints about Mastercraft business practices, including that Mastercraft used aggressive and targeted door-to-door sales practices to engage consumers, represented that consumers were signing only to authorize a free inspection when the documents were actually contracts, and then threatened excessive liquidated damages in the amount of one third of the contract price when consumers decided not to use Mastercraft, including by filing lawsuits with Delaware’s Justice of the Peace Court. Mastercraft advertised “free inspections” to consumers, who were told by Mastercraft that they must s

Ms. Wood, You have chosen to omit certain material facts in connection with your roof situation. Firstly, we conducted a complimentary inspection, without financial obligation, in order to ascertain whether you could possibly qualify for a roof replacement with the assistance of your insurance company. It was determined that the level of storm damage would warrant having an insurance claim filed in order to mitigate the damage. We cannot speak to whatever conversations that you had with contractors other than us. We then met with your insurance company’s appointed inspection firm in order to document the areas of concern that we had found. Again, you paid nothing in return for our time and expertise. Following this meeting, the insurance company initially suggested certain repairs in lieu of a complete roof replacement. We then again sent, at our expense, our contractor to your home in order to document the inability to effectuate the suggested repairs by the insurance company. For some reason, you refused to sign our authorization form in order for us to be considered your contractor of record, thereby enabling us to interact with the insurance company so as to advance the claim to the next level. You have paid nothing out of pocket to date. The only commitment you had to make was your cooperation. I know of no other companies that would invest such a great deal of time and expense with a customer that refuses to sign our authorization form in good faith. Best wishes on resolving your roofing needs.

Mr. Davis, you didn’t bother returning our repeated phone calls for an entire month, went out on your own to file an insurance claim, failed in your attempts to gain the insurance company’s cooperation and then have been bothering us since then in an attempt to have us sort out the mess you created. We are not interested in doing business with you and most people would have figured that out on their own. Money isn’t everything to us. Best of luck!

I have experienced their work after the fact. It wouldn't be so bad if they would have used the spacers. What was everyone smoking that day?... SMH

Hi, Alan. When you threatened to post a negative social media post and file suit, you were advised our position would remain unchanged. Since you elected to be sneaky and go behind our back to strike a deal with our subcontractor to perform additional work, we informed you that we would not permit our license number and insurance to be used by the third-party for the same. As far as the specific work that we actually performed, the permit inspector would concur that the job site was free of any debris related to the deck construction. The final approval was more than 1.5 months ago, yet you just recently claim we didn’t clean the job site. We even cleaned up the trash for the 3 doors installed that were installed by the sub, or should I say the person “that you found a better price” from. Now that this sub, whom we have since terminated, has kept your money for the additional work that you negotiated behind our back, you are upset and want to become retaliatory. Sorry we are unable to help. Good luck with the window project.
