Hire a small local company. They just sub their roofs out to mass crews with 19 ladders on top of their vans

    Reply from the business

Todd, We take great pride in the quality of our work and the reputation we've built in the community. After reviewing our records, we have no record of ever providing you with a roofing estimate or completing any work for you. Your comments are misleading and inaccurate. At J Carnes & Son Roofing, we have dedicated project supervisors on-site for every job and follow a strict 100-point quality checklist to ensure customer satisfaction. We use trusted crews who meet our standards and have long-standing relationships with our company — not the kind of subcontracting model you're referring to. If you believe you’ve had a genuine experience with our company, we encourage you to reach out directly so we can address any concerns properly. Otherwise, we respectfully ask that you remove this false review. — J Carnes & Son Roofing

They need to teach their drivers how to drive. Today, at a four way intersection I had one truck decide that it didn't want to wait his turn and pull out in front of me.

We appreciate the feedback. While this appears to have been a brief mix-up at a stop, we always expect our team to represent J Carnes & Son Roofing professionally—both on and off the job site. We've already spoken with our crew about the importance of being courteous at intersections and will continue to remind them to drive respectfully.

Not happy and they don’t do anything about it. They take it personal instead of fixing the leaks and problems they created. Other smaller issues.. they take all extra product you pay for, don’t clean up properly (leaving nails, staples, trash all over the place. Take apart rock wall to use as a weight for their tarps and don’t put back. Nails left in driveway.), ripped up flowers by removing a fence that didn’t need to be removed, stole our tarp, charged extra without telling us until the end, most expensive quote we got, vents put in the wrong spot, etc. I was not happy with this company at all!! My house was freshly painted and now I have to not only repaint but I have to replace Sheetrock because they created leaks we never had before. I’m not looking forward to working with them for the length of the warranty. Pro price without pro experience. Horrible customer service skills.

Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent experience with J Carnes & Son Roofing. We sincerely apologize that our project did not meet your expectations. I would like to recap the order of events, I will also reach out personally to confirm we are not missing anything, if we are we will address it immediately (Jay Carnes, Owner). We completed your roof installation on March 6th, 2024. On March 7th, John sent an email to Christine stating he was happy with the install, team, and quality of work. He had a couple of questions regarding the chimney flashing, surplus of drip edge, and the $320 change order. John set an appointment with Ken Carnes on March 12th to walk the property and discuss these concerns. Material Surplus: Ken explained that we always bring extra materials for every job to ensure completion without delays. Change Order: The estimate included one sheet of plywood known to be damaged. The installers discovered two additional damaged sheets and recommended installing two new rooftop bathroom exhaust vents to direct moisture out of the attic. Chimney Flashing: John mentioned the flashing didn’t look sealed. Ken confirmed it was and recommended repointing the chimney due to damaged bricks and mortar joints, which are common leak points. John was persistent that we just caulk these areas for him, which Ken agreed to do despite it not being an actual solution. We had an installer address Johns request the next day March 13th. On March 15th, John came into the office and paid the balance. On April 15th, we received a call about a small drip from a skylight. Ken responded immediately and fixed a creased skylight gasket. This is the first we are hearing about the grounds not being completely clean which is totally out of character for any of our crews. When Ken did his walk around with John the grounds looked completely clean, this was never brought up once as a concern of his, if so we would have had a crew back immediately to clean again. As

I paid about 14 thousand dollars to have them put on a new roof on my house and I now have several leaks. I called them and they blamed it on other things, not their work. They sent someone out who never called me to say they were coming and never got back to me with the results, however they did nothing for me or my issues. Do not use this company. They do not stand behind their work and are not trustworthy. Stay away from this company. In response to your response you are not being truthful. You came over once to look at the leaks which are now in other places other than the chimney. You never did any work on “ your dime”. That is just comedy. The one foot piece of chimney that comes out of the roof has been pointed, and the window you say rotted is pressure treated so it’s not rotted. Nobody ever called me or spoke with me about the findings of your response out here. I just found an empty tube of calking they left behind in my bushes. I never spoke to the man who came here. He was leaving and I opened my front door and asked him what was going on. He could not speak English and said “window” to me. I never said he sucked I simply walked back inside because I figured someone who spoke English would call me back and explain their findings. I never heard from anyone at all. Again this shows their lack of concern and attention to detail. Stay away from this company. There are many other roofing contractors to use and I wish I had used one instead of J Carnes. I have never written a bad review in all my life but I felt that it was necessary in this case, because their incompetence is epic.

    Reply from the business

Timothy, how can you claim we don’t stand behind our work?. We have responded immediately with out delay to all your calls. In your case both your chimney and window are leaking. Your chimney is falling apart and your have multiple layers of siding on your house and cracks in your window where water is entering. Before we installed the roof we explained to you that the chimney was in poor shape practically falling apart in areas and needed a professional mason to repair and repoint the joints to stop the chimney leaks. After you went up on the roof yourself to try and fill the gaps the chimney still leaked, we still responded two more times to your calls, completed inspections and advised you again the brick damage is so extensive that you would need a professional mason to make the repairs. We also on our dime, pulled apart your wall to trace the other leak back to your window, showed you photos of the damage clearly showing cracks and rot directly under the window, which is at a much higher point than the roof. Your response to our discovery, screaming uncontrollably at our project manager telling him he sucks for something that is out of his or our control was uncalled for. I understand your frustration but we have been there for you throughout. Your roof warranty will cover 100% all the work we completed no questions asked, but if you have issues in other areas of your home that is not roof related that is a new project. For you to try and ruin someone’s reputation simply because you didn’t get the news you wanted to hear is unfair. Edited response: Anyone who would like to see the documentation and photos of this job we will be more than happy to provide them upon request. Unfortunately this customer is not being truthful, we have never had a poor review for a job we have completed, as every other review will testify our customer service, communication and response to calls is second to none.

Never got an actual quote from them!

    Reply from the business

Alex, I am confused how you feel we only deserve one star? We scheduled an onsite appointment to discuss your project, we sent follow up emails and text confirming the appointment and you didn’t show up. I'm sure you are aware, this is not a cut and dry install. Your house is riddled with damaged flashings, multiple shingle styles weaved together, multiple layers of roofing, misapplications of existing shingles and out dated skylights. Additionally there are over grown areas of your yard limiting our ability to access roof areas. Jade had zero idea what your expectations are. Since he didn't have the ability to walk around the property with you to identify problem areas and discuss challenges he submitted his findings to our on site project managers to try to make sense of all visual issues and the access challenges so we can provide semi accurate estimate without knowing the underlying details. It's only been 7 business days since we visited your house and unfortunately a project this complex takes time to estimate. It also appears you poorly reviewed another roofing company the same time as ours for simply providing a price that you were not happy with. I realize replacing a roof is stressful and it is an expense that no one looks forward to, however to damage a companies reputation for inadequate reasons is not fair. At this point I I wish you the best of luck with your project and hope you can find a company that meets your needs.

It has been about four months, still waiting on the a quote...left messages, emails, etc. Nothing. Horrible customer service. If you can't handle the job, then just let me know, don't leave me hanging.

    Reply from the business

I apologize if you feel you had a bad experience, I am however very confused with your accusations. I can assure you, we do not take communication lightly. We have a full staff who's jobs are to answer And field all calls. If the lines are busy we have a backup service who takes a message and sends us an immediate alert with the call back information. ALL calls are returned immediately. We also use a VOIP system which can track all incoming and outgoing calls as well as a CRM to log detail notes on interactions with every customers. You made only one call to our company on March 18th at 1:42pm. The lines were busy, your call was returned the same day at 2:57pm. You were transferred to sales to discuss your project, which was installing a small rubber roof under a deck. We explained that we are unable to work on roofs underneath decks because we do not do any structural work and there is too much liability if another contractor installs a deck over a rubber roof we installed. Our salesman offered to come out and take a look anyway on April 2nd 9am. It was confirmed that the rubber roof replacement under your deck is typically not a project we take on because its a very small area that has more structural work than roof work. He also looked at an area where a tree branch went through the asphalt roof. Due to the type of damage his recommendation was to replace the entire facet although you wanted just a spot repair. Our salesman stated he would double check with the office to confirm whether or not we could take on and warranty a spot repair with this type of damage. The only other contact from you was one email you made shortly after his visit, you received an immediate response. Again, I'm really not sure how communication was an issue, we have a brick and mortar location with a showroom opened daily for walk-in service, full-time staff answering the phones, transferring calls and relaying messages. We also use a high tech CRM to manage and log all c

From meeting with Jade at the initial site visit, to setting up start date, payment, scheduling with Shannon, to project start to finish with Josh and his crew was seamless. Crew showed up at 7:30am as promised and showed excellent work ethic, professionalism and attention to detail. Josh the PM is very fair, reasonable, and really shows he is there to make sure things come out exactly how you want and as promised. His crew are such hard workers. Our total roof replacement exceeded our expectations. Would recommend this company to anybody who is looking for a professional business that executes high quality workmanship.

    J. Carnes & Sons Roofing did a great job replacing the roof on my home. They removed and replaced all the plywood and completely replaced the shingles, skylight, gutter toppers and added a new gutter to a new addition. The crew was very professional and the crew manager kept me informed through the whole process.

We recently had our roof replaced and are extremely satisfied with the whole experience from start to finish. Meetings prior to replacement were timely and detailed. We were very clear on the entire process as work began. The crew could not have been better. They were positive, very hard working and neat in their work. Clean up was meticulous, include magnets used to detect any excess nails, etc. Thank you to a great staff and crew!
