    Beware!!!

  • 1 out of 5Gary H3 years ago

They took advantage of my situation. Insurance is asking for condition of the underlayment. John told me they can do the inspection and letter. Ev came out and performed a full inspection, which I appreciate. The report came and it was nothing of what I have asked for.. Ev even took a picture of the email from my insurance. Instead, the report deny a certification (which I wasn't asking) Unless they perform the repair/replace broken tiles in excess of $50,000.00 an over inflated price. Even though John promised they can do underlayment certification, however, Ev refuses and kept talking in circles.. They robbed me of $495 then provide a report that I have to repair @ their cost of $50,000.000. Stay away from this Scammers

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We strive to provide excellent customer service, and it is unfortunate to hear about your dissatisfaction. We want to address your points and provide some clarification to avoid misunderstanding both from your perspective and prospective clients. The age of the system was the original issue which is why the insurance company is concerned with extending coverage. We are familiar with this process as insurance companies are becoming more diligent about the type of structures they will insure. We perform these types of inspections on a routine basis. We were hired to provide an inspection of the condition of the roof system. The inspection fee was agreed upon before coming out and you mentioned that you appreciate that service. The apparent issue is the report's outcome; this is out of our control. We report on the current condition of the roof system. This is a visual, non-invasive inspection. Our company is built on simplistic values such as honesty and integrity, which guide our services and communication. The roofing material is a tile roof, and the underlayment is hidden beneath the tiles. Cert-A-Roof is trained and certified through the NRCIA and is held to higher standards than other roofing companies. We need to follow the NRCIA's 5-zone inspection process to provide a proper evaluation of the roof system; this process is critical when evaluating the condition of the concealed waterproof membrane in question. This roof system has many issues (broken tiles, slipped tiles, valley issues, etc.), all of which jeopardize the integrity of the waterproof underlayment in question and prevent any reputable contractor from passing the roof and potentially assisting in insurance fraud. I agree that repairing/replacing broken tiles for over $50,000 is absurd. However, this was not proposed. We provided multiple options to you to get the roof in compliance with NRCIA standards, and our most expensive option at $50,

Worst contractor on the West coast! Most disrespectful vendor who is over priced and doesn’t complete what you assign to them! I really recommend that you look for someone else as they are not a good company to contract out. - Gus Rodriguez Soto ( National Director @megastar)

We requested a roof inspection/certification. What got was a inspection and the inspector stating they our flat roof needed to be replaced before he could certify it. Well, come to find out no one certifies a flat roof and there was nothing wrong with the roof since I had it replaced just a few years ago. They wanted to replace the broken or cracked tiles on the angled roof. We also, noticed that the first 9 tiles were free, any tile after that was a $100 apiece after that. We needed 28 tiles replaced. We went with another company since they were way more reasonable and were able to get the job done quicker and at a much more reasonable price.

Thank you for your feedback Richard. We provided you an accurate roof Inspection report with all the problem areas; also we clearly state that you are free to find any roofer who can help fix the problem areas. Roof certification is only provided when the roof is in proper working conditions. This was clearly not the case with your roof. We are glad you found our report useful and found someone else to take care of your roof.

Most roofing company offers free quote. This company charges $150 just to get quote.

    Reply from the business

Thank you Betsy for your feedback. We charge for our Roof Leak Investigations and Replacement Proposals because we professionally investigate the proximate cause of the roof damage by inspecting the interior if applicable, the attic at our discernment, and rooftop, and provide a detailed proposal package with a fixed and credible price, all within 24 – 48 hours. An upgrade to include a thorough, consultative report with complete photographs is also available. Other contractors typically only briefly inspect the rooftop and then provide their simple findings with a variable, rough (and often grossly inaccurate) estimate, often rushed. While the average contractor rushes their free estimate, we commit to provide you with a quality experience and reliable proposal package so you can make an informed decision.

Needed my roof looked at for a quote after a leak during a heavy storm. Cert-a-roof quoted me $4,000-7,000 to repair that section of roof or $20,000-25,000 to replace the entire roof, which they stated is in its last couple years before needing replacement anyways. I got a second opinion who said my roof was in great condition and the need repair would only cost $1,000. These guys are crooks upcharging on services and recommending services that aren't needed! Hire at your own risk!! Apparently they have a reputation for this as well that I didn't learn about until after paying $100 for a quote....

    Reply from the business

Thank you for the opportunity to earn your business. It appears that you received a vastly different repair opinion at a cheaper rate and automatically thought Cert-A-Roof was misleading you based on the cost valuation. Once I arrived at your place and saw the interior leak location, I indicated that based on my professional experience I knew the exact cause of the moisture intrusion. Furthermore, I went on top of the roof to verify my statements. The leak was from the valley location and the roof will continue to leak unless the entire valley is redone per my repair diagram that was professionally provided. In your review, you indicated that my cost was between 4k-7k which is very misleading to any other potential customers. I gave you a solid figure (not a range) to properly repair the leak, in addition to other maintenance issues on the roof, totaling $4,651. I don't know where you came up with the range of 4k-7k but that is not accurate. It is your right to shop around and I encourage it when the opportunity presents itself as contractors tend to have different suggestions on how to "fix" a leak. There is a right way, and several other sub-standard repair options as well. In this case, based on your $1,000 cost estimate, the contractor you chose to work with is not fixing the leak properly and the leak unfortunately is bound to return. Upon completion of the appointment and when I provided you the estimate of the repairs, you asked what it would cost comparatively to replace the entire roof for which I verbally gave you a ballpark estimate. This was not an attempt to solicit you for an entire new roof, but more to educate you on how to properly make an informed decision on how to proceed with your roof issues. I did say that your roof was near the end of its serviceable life as the age of the home is 25 years old. 25 years is the mark when a tile roof system starts to fail. In addition, I did not give you a formal quote on replacing the roof so I am confused

  • 1 out of 5Linda Sample8 years ago

I did not use them. Ridiculously high price just to replace the paper, not the tiles. Anyone else would have done it all for less than their quote.

We have been working with Cert-A-Roof for over four years, and they have once again delivered an excellent experience on a large commercial re-roof for our church building. Paul was responsive and transparent throughout the entire process, making sure we understood every step and felt confident in the decisions we were making. Ev Gallardo led the day-to-day project management on site and was professional, communicative, and clearly knew his craft. The quality of the work was excellent, the crew stayed on schedule, and the whole process ran smoothly from start to finish. When it comes to roofing, Cert-A-Roof is who we trust and we would not hesitate to recommend them.

David, thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review. It was a pleasure working with you on your roof inspection in Rancho Palos Verdes, and we truly appreciate your trust in Cert-A-Roof and the NRCIA process. We understand how frustrating it can be to face uncertainty after a new roof installation, especially when there’s a verbal disagreement with a general contractor. As you mentioned, many city roof inspections only cover the basics and don’t always address the full scope of roofing standards or manufacturer specifications. That’s where our work really matters—bringing clarity, objectivity, and credibility to the conversation. Ev Gallardo is one of our best (NRCIA award winning inspector), and we’re so glad you recognized his professional ethics, detailed documentation, and standards-based approach. His focus is always on providing evidence-based, unbiased roof inspections that help clients like you make decisions based on truth, not opinion. Thank you again for your kind words and highest recommendation. We're here if you ever need further roof evaluations, forensic inspections, or simply a second set of expert eyes. Wishing you peace of mind and protection over your home for years to come!
