They wanted to charge a 3k inspection fee, which would be deducted if I went with them, for a 240 sqft flat roof that is less than 5k job! Who hires these scammers?

I’m sorry to hear that you feel this way about our team and our company. From what I understand, you were looking for a roof replacement quote for a property in Sudbury. While we appreciate you reaching out to us, our company is based in Barrie, and Sudbury is well outside our regular service area. A team member explained that we could provide a rough estimate without visiting the site, which could be up to approximately $20,000. However, a proper assessment and detailed quote would require an in-person visit. Due to the distance involved, we would need to charge for that visit in advance. If you decided to move forward with the work, that amount would be credited back to the project. We normally provide free estimates. In this case, however, the distance creates unusual circumstances. A round trip to Sudbury would involve approximately 7 to 8 hours of travel time, plus fuel, meals, vehicle expenses, and a full day of labour for one team member, or possibly two if a 40-foot ladder was required. Additional time would also be needed to prepare and present a detailed estimate. These same travel and labour costs would also apply to the actual roofing project, which means we may not be able to provide pricing as competitive as a local contractor. We understand that roofing costs can be frustrating, especially when quotes come in higher than expected. If you have received several quotes and they are all in a similar range, that may be a sign that the pricing reflects the real cost of the work in your area. Our suggestion would be to review each quote carefully to make sure you are comparing the same scope, materials, warranties, and installation details. Ask each contractor for a detailed list of the products being used, including manufacturer specifications, so you can make the most informed decision. We wish you the best with your roofing project.
