  I chose La Boîte C despite a higher price than other quotes, mainly because of the pre-contract assessment visit and the clause in the contract stating that this visit would help avoid additional installation costs. During this visit, I was assured that everything had been checked, including the attic. However, on the day of installation, I was informed that 12 plywood panels needed replacing, 9 more than initially planned, adding $1,655, or more than 12% of the original contract. Beyond the surprise, the cost of $160 per panel, when a similar panel sells for around $40 in stores, seemed excessive. You can judge for yourself, but in my opinion, a difference of approximately 400% between the actual cost of the materials and the price charged is outrageous and gives the impression that they are taking advantage of the customer rather than offering a fair price. It's still too early to judge the quality of the work; only time will tell if the roof will hold up. In the end, I paid more thinking I'd avoid this kind of situation, but I had the same experience as with other contractors. For this reason, I don't recommend La Boîte C and I urge future clients to do their research before signing anything.

However, we would like to clarify a few points regarding the issues raised, in the interest of transparency and mutual respect: Gutters: As soon as you reported the problem, our team took action to straighten the sections of gutters that could be repaired. That said, as stated in our contracts, gutters – although protected during the work – are not covered by our warranty due to their fragility and non-structural nature. Unfortunately, it is common for these elements to be affected during major renovations. Soffits: Roof installation does not usually include work on the soffits, and these were not handled by our team. Their instability could therefore be linked to a cause unrelated to the work we carried out. Leak between the house and the garage: We regret to learn that a leak has occurred. Our work is guaranteed for 10 years against any installation defects, and if this problem had been reported to us, we would have intervened as quickly as possible to correct the situation, as we have always done with all our clients. It is all the more unfortunate that you chose to hire another contractor without contacting us beforehand, thus depriving us of the opportunity to honor our warranty. Since the publication of your review, we have tried to contact you to inspect the roof, but have not yet received a response from you. We remain open and available to discuss the situation and, if you wish, schedule a visit to review the work done and determine if further action is still possible.   I haven't done business with them, but I see them working and the guys are close together, though not on the roof, and without masks, and they're not touching each other tightly. I want to say that it's behavior like this that's going to get us out of this mess.

  The work is very high quality! They took the time to cover the flowerbeds, so it was very clean when they left (only 4-5 nails were under the container, and they had clearly warned us that they wouldn't be able to do that section and therefore wouldn't check after the container was removed). They replaced our skylights and raised them to minimize the risk of water infiltration (so we had to do the interior finishing ourselves). We're just a little disappointed with the counter flashing on the small front roof; it's not very attractive (thick and white), but we understand the reasoning (given that the roof was indeed rotten and the brick-vinyl joint is uneven). We're going to paint it, so it will be less noticeable. Also, the structure holding the soffit had come loose in one spot (they replaced all the plywood under the roof), and it was repaired the same week we informed them. Communication was always easy, both for the quote and during the work. The final price was exactly as quoted; there were no unpleasant surprises because they had conducted an inspection before submitting the quote.
