Update in response to the company’s reply: I would like to clarify a few factual points. My written contract does not state that drip edge was “excluded.” I have reviewed the agreement, and there is no clause indicating that drip edge would not be installed. I also verbally requested drip edge at the time of booking. The contract specifies that weather shield would be replaced where needed. It was not. When I contacted the owner directly to resolve these concerns, I was told that if he inspected the roof and found it to be fine, I would be charged $500. He later stated he was “just giving my dad a hard time.” I did not find that appropriate or professional. I was also told that drip edge is uncommon in Thunder Bay. Regardless of regional practices, my concern is that I requested it and expected the work to reflect both the contract and standard roofing practices. I am currently experiencing water coming through to the soffit, which has only increased my concern about the missing drip edge and overall installation details. My intention in leaving this review is not to be confrontational, but to provide accurate information for other homeowners making significant financial decisions. I attempted to resolve this directly with the company prior to posting the original review. I stand by my experience. Dykstra Knight refused to intsall drip edge on my new roof. I requested it, and my understanding is that is required by code in Ontario. Either way, I found them unprofessional and rude. When my father spoke with the owner, he told him he would charge me 500$ if he came to inspect the job and found it to be fine. I mean, the drip edge is not there... when I spoke to him, he said he as just giving my dad a hard time because he's "old" and "didnt know the right words for things". My dad is francophone, 76 yrs old, and his family owns a construction business in Montreal area. The owner then told me , "yeah, this isnt Southern Ontario, its Thunder Bay, most of th

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear you were dissatisfied and would like to clarify a few important details. Your roof was completed in 2023 under a clearly defined written agreement, which specifically excluded drip edge installation. In the Thunder Bay region, many homes are constructed with fascia systems that do not require drip edge, and it is commonly treated as an optional item. While drip edge can be beneficial in certain applications, it is not mandated by the Ontario Building Code in all cases. We always install it when requested and included in the agreed scope of work. We understand that expectations can vary depending on regional practices—what’s standard in Southern Ontario may differ from what’s typical here. That said, our aim is always to be transparent and clear during the quoting and planning stages of a project. We also regret if any part of your interaction with us or your father felt dismissive. We strive to treat all our clients and their families with respect, and we apologize if our communication fell short of that standard. We appreciate your initiative in sourcing and installing drip edge to meet your personal preferences and are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. If there is anything further you would like to discuss, we are happy to speak with you directly. Thank you again for your feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We take all reviews seriously and strive to address any concerns promptly. The contract for the job you are referring to did not include work on the porch. Also the condition of the porch was noted as extremely unsafe due to severe rot, making it dangerous for our employees to work on. The tarp and bundles were left in a effort to assist the homeowner till he found a contracting company to repair the damage.

An overall poor experience from Dykstra Knight Roofing. Our property management company engaged Dykstra to send a crew member to inspect, provide feedback and repair the leak to the roof accurately. When I had inspected the quality of the work once completed by walking on the roof and in the attic it was very obvious that the repairman did not accurately repair the holes to the roof. It would have been beneficial if the company took the time to truly inspect and suggest to myself the best means of repair so that we could have a safe winter at the property. This was not the case as the repairman quickly applied some caulking (photo attached) to an area, wiped his hands clean and the company invoiced me for the "work." I had re-inspected, found the holes and provided photos to the owner the company stating that this should be repaired immediately to ensure that the holes (originally discussed) were accurately repaired. The owner had mentioned the crew would go to re-visit and fix the holes that I had found basically doing their job for them. I had anticipated that this would be done immediately but it wasn't until a recent rainfall that my tenants had informed me that the roof was leaking again! As much as I enjoy staying on top of tradesmen there is some degree of responsibility that they should have to actually complete the work. I should not have to chase them to ensure that a hole in the roof is repaired before the next large rainfall after already climbing the roof to show them what a poor job the repairman did. At this point I've engaged another crew to repair the roof, subsequent damages to the living room ceiling were made after this poor repair and I've asked for a refund where i've been told that this is their standard service fee. Regardless of your standard fee if you've done a poor job fix it, credit your dissatisfied customer back and sort the issue promptly. Do not tell people "you're on the schedule." Show some urgency! Extremely disappointing. Plea

In my opinion, and I have very high standards, Noah and Dykstra Knight crew is the best in Thunder Bay, hands down for professional service, workmanship, and competitive prices. Highly recommend them for roofing, soffit, fascia, eaves, and decks.

We would like to give a huge "shout-out" to Dykstra Knight Roofing and Renovations for their expertise in roofing our house. We started by soliciting estimates online from various Thunder Bay roofing companies. One day after submitting our request, Noah was at our door and on our roof inspecting - he actually thought we could get 1 or 2 more years out of our shingles but we opted to replace this year. The crew, headed up by Jessie and James, were excellent. They walked us through the process and went the "extra mile" to ensure we knew what was happening and why. The roofing crew were very knowledgeable of what they were doing and promptly secured the roof when a heavy rain hit suddenly - they actually stayed on the roof to make sure everything was water-proofed. Also, a special thanks to Ryan, who painstakingly completed the front featured roof which took an incredible amount of patience and skill - it looks fantastic. Thank you again for the excellent roof work and cleanup. Karl and Marjorie J.

Had huge amount of snow on my metal roof. No one wanted to clear it. A crew of 3 from Dykstra came out and went above and beyond even clearing snow away from my foundation after the roof was cleared. Professional, very respectful and super helpful. Fantastic group worth every dime!

    Reply from the business

Thank you so much! Snow removal on a metal roof is no small task, and we're glad our crew could step up when others wouldn't. Going the extra mile is just part of how we operate — sounds like the guys took that literally! We really appreciate the kind words and are happy we could help.
