  Tyler came by to give me an estimate to fix or replace a roof. He said he would send me an estimate in a couple days. It's been more than a week and no estimate and has not returned my calls.

  In 2018, Stout Roofing replaced a roof, and when they did so, they incorrectly flashed where a vertical wall meets the roofline. Rather than having step flashing going under the siding and under the shingles, they installed the flashing over the siding so that any rain or snow hitting that area of the wall would run under the shingles. I believe, at the time, they used some kind of adhesive to hold the flashing to the vertical wall. Flash forward to 2024, and I'm trying to buy this house, and as part of the purchase, the seller was to address this issue with the flashing coming away from the wall, so they called Stout Roofing to fix it since it wasn't installed correctly in the first place. I did call Stout twice to confirm they were the ones that did this work, which they confirmed, but more on that later. So Stout Roofing sent someone out to make the repair on the house, and they did it in the most backwards way possible. The correct thing to do would have been to remove some siding on the house and tuck the step flashing under the siding, or just seal it back down for a few more years and maintain that. Instead, what they did was poorly bend some new flashing and screw it to the roof using metal roofing screws, which is 100% the wrong thing to do and now each one of these screw holes is a point in which water can just leak through the roof and into the house. You don't need to take my word for it, let's look at what the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors has to say on it "If you see continuous, one-piece flashing like this used as sidewall flashing with shakes, shingles, or slate, it’s a defective installation, no matter how often you see it." As well as you can, just use your eyes and look at homes that have proper flashing, and you will see that it doesn't look like the photos I posted here. The original flashing work and our first repair attempt did not meet the standard we hold ourselves to, and we own that fully. We've held off on responding publicly until now, simply because we never wanted to turn your review into a back-and-forth. But we do feel it's fair to add some context for anyone reading. After you raised concerns about the repair, we offered two paths to make it right: send a crew back out alongside a member of our ownership team to correct the work directly, or pay you the amount you estimated it would cost to have the repair completed by a roofer of your choosing. You chose the payment, named the amount, and we paid it in full so the job could be finished the way you wanted. We genuinely wish the outcome had been different, and we hold no hard feelings.   Ordered a quote, man arrived within 2 days, climbed on the roof, came down and said he would have a estimate within the next 2 to 3 days for a complete roof replacement. This was early July of 2020, it is now mid Oct 2020 and still no estimate nor communication from Stout Roofing. I called the office in late Aug. and was told the inspection assessment was still with the inspector who had come to the house and she would get with him to complete the estimate for the re-roof, still no communication/estimate - now mid Oct.. If they are not willing to see a project through or even provide an estimate, as promised, why not just say "we're not interested in doing the work". Very bad taste about this company, not a good attitude for a business to have.
