  Well thanks so much. We certainly appreciate the positive feedback. We put our hand up and quite possibly a little too high this past year to try to assist with the hail reclamation. I will be the first to say that not everyone got the full Smart Home experience. We went through contractors, staff, supply chain, customer, insurers, weather and yes, communication challenges. But, we sure never quit. So, when we are fortunate to find good contractors that are passionate about their skillset it’s always a win for everyone involved. Thanks for working with us and sharing your accountability and integrity.

  Well Barry, that's very nice of you to take the time to share. That was quite a large project and indeed took us a while... but in the end with your help we were most definitely able to make your house - your home. The truth is we get asked at the Home Shows why we are called Smart Home etc. and when you get right down to it most people that we sit with really want what you have. A lifetime roof, hail resistant siding and a beautiful front door. And you folks trusted us with all three. The smartness is in upgrading the windows, insulation with more permanent solutions that will be maintenance free for years to come. We appreciate your kind words, your honesty and your business.

The city has 13,000 hail damaged homes in Calgary and it has indeed affected our trades, pride and ego and yes, our flow. Much respect for your understanding.

  Overall, we’re very pleased with the work done on our new metal roof replacement. Smart Homes was the only company that actively collaborated with our insurance provider to maximize our claim. Their thoroughness and professionalism were exactly why we chose them. Unlike other companies that simply based their quotes on what the insurance would pay, Smart Homes worked closely with both us and the insurer to ensure a fair and accurate estimate for all the necessary repairs. They took lots of pictures to document the work completed. The only reason we gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that communication could have been better. We experienced some miscommunication that led to crews showing up when we were not there and needing access to the inside. Lack of communication causing errors leading to extra work, but these issues were addressed. We understand this was likely due to the high demand following Calgary’s recent hailstorm, which stretched crews and resources thin. In the end, we have a beautiful metal roof and here are a few things to note: Installation takes longer than a shingle roof and requires more space to store materials. The team communicated this clearly upfront and worked with us to maintain access to our garage throughout the project. Since installation, we’ve had several heavy rain and hailstorms. Surprisingly, the metal roof is much quieter than shingles—there’s less noise from wind, hail, and rain, making it very pleasant inside. The runoff seems heavier, and while it’s hard to say if our gutters are fully keeping up yet, we’re monitoring the situation. An unexpected bonus: we haven’t needed to turn on our air conditioning since the new roof went up. Whether it’s due to the roofing material, improved ventilation, or both, our home stays noticeably cooler than in previous summers. We’ll continue observing this benefit over time.

  We have a living room that faces North so was quite dark. Andrew, Smart Home, added two small windows to the East wall. He was very pleasant to work with, price was great and we are very pleased with the result. Thank you.

  I'm an experienced renovator and research scientist, working to transform a 50’s bungalow into a 21st century super-insulated little gem. I hired Joe and Andrew to help me with several projects over the last few years, including steel roofing, exterior cladding, eavestroughs, and soffits, and additional projects are forthcoming. I’ve been really fortunate to have found Smarthome. Firstly, I’m not an easy customer for Joe and Andrew, in that I have particular demands and requirements, as I’m a stickler for construction details and aim to utilize the latest building science and highest quality materials in my own work. I didn’t want to deal with just your average renovator. The goal here is to build for the next 50 years. It was a revelation to initially interact with Joe and later Andrew, who share this same passion for quality and best practice in construction methods and materials, and I’ve learned a lot from their experience and wisdom. Their interactions and communications are always professional and prompt, and as a smaller company it feels highly personalized, I’m always in the loop. Exterior renos inevitably encounter unexpected complications and delays, and it was in fact my own project delays requiring Smarthome to shuffle their project deck. No problem, they get it, we’re in this together. For the average homeowner just wanting to know if Smarthome will listen to you, provide the best possible advice, steer you clear of bad choices, give you options to meet your needs and budget, build it right the first time, and give you a fair market price, then have no hesitation.   This is our first experience with large renovations due to the hail storm last year. This company has been a pleasure to deal with. So far our roof has been replaced. The roofers used were amazing people who were friendly and knowledgeable; taking time to answer questions.
